I think that would be good, is he not a good player anymore?

Draft Pick

Takes up a camp spot from a young guy. Flames need to let the young guys get their shot after the last few years.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Don't want a kid sitting as the 13th forward, and I don't want Duehr necessarily sitting a bunch either, so a guy like Watson who can provide some size and plays RW isn't the worst idea and his role in camp would be as expected. Push the kids. In the end even they did give him a PTO, and sign him, he wouldn't be stealing anyone's job. Maybe Duehr?

My thoughts are that if the Flames have any illusions about competing for the cup/playoffs with the roster as it stands now they can't afford to give any roster spots to just size/grit.
We don't have the surefire top end talent so the only way they can keep up is if they adapt either a suffocating defense (didn't work last year and can't work if we still have a broken Markstrom) or adapt a depth scoring model... which means no pure size/grit guys.

this was my train of thought when i asked the question because he seemed to be a decent depth player and plays a heavier game.
i don't know that we have any kids that play that game...assuming he gets to that point and no one signs him first.

i don't think he's a goon or too 1 dimensional - pretty sure he kills penalties and plays decent defensively but basing that on limited viewings of him.

Watson would be a good 13th forward imo, we don’t want a young guy riding the popcorn seat development wise anyway.
Gives us some size and snarl when we need it and he can actually kill penalties.
Can fight too if required.

I’ve been advocating for this since the start of free agency. He’s getting up there in age, but he’s huge and can skate. Plays a physical brand of hockey, and is a capable defensive player, and can kill penalties. He will stick up for teammates, but isn’t the greatest fighter.

Wasn't Dell like kryptonite to the Flames? Airdrie kid? Once harpooned Tkachuk
