We literally have the best center and D-man available in the market, no reason to rush this.

This reminds me of Sonny Weaver taking advantage of that new GM in Jacksonville, Jeff Carson.

The dumpster deals are all getting done now.

Winnipeg got “stuff”
LA got a questionable 2C but the window is now.
Colorado just sold a player that is capped in their org.
Blues picked up a free asset albeit a Hayes.
Chicago is weaponized the cap.
Bruins are trying to keep the window open.
Philly is becoming tank commanders.

I mean, historically you get your best returns at the Draft and thats all well and good, but we may have to throw the history books out the window here. The NHL has been all over the place for the last few years.

But can we be confident that if Conroy doesnt get the offers he wants that he'll play these guys into the season while acknowledging that this team is going nowhere, regardless of results, and trade them whenever during the season up to the Deadline and then plug holes from there?

Because we all know...if they manage to perform and we're in a playoff spot at times, its going to be really hard to make the call to trade them at that point.

Because if that happens, you may as well save the demolition crew some time and just let the fans with torches and pitchforks take care of bringing down the 'Dome.

People also acting like other GMs don't have their own team goals and have their own pressures to perform. Relax people.

One important thing to confirm, are we going with Conny or Connie? Or the full Craig Michael Conroy?

I wasn't a big fan of the Winnipeg return because I don't think trying to remain competitive is the right move.

But Vilardi had 29 5V5 points last year to Dubois 30...and he played 10 fewer games.

And then you got a couple pieces on top of that. I think the problem might be more that Dubois is highly overrated more than what WPG got in return was bad.

I'd go with CMC.

I'm pretty sure that folks here on CP playing poker with Conny probably just want him to show them all his cards....because why not? You have to play 'em sometime. (Unless you don't.)

I have a feeling that the moaning and groaning here after tomorrow is going to be absolutely EPIC - regardless of what happens!

Dubois is a player, I don’t think many teams consider him a game changer - he does help you win when he’s engaged. They also just picked up a Top 5 ####### to play against in the league.

Patience might be needed here and some teams might be calling later in summer but the trades right now aren't looking good for teams selling.
Exactly.

Look at the Hayes, Johansen, and Hall trades. Are Briere, Trotz, and Sweeney all idiots? Or is that just the market?

I wonder if it’s just his draft… would not surprise me if the phones light up for Conroy come July 2nd with offers of first round picks in 2024. It’s frustrating because they are still “low-balling” in that scenario because of how much better this draft is.

Craig's waiting to ply these GMs with drinks in the Flames' Hospitality Suite first.

The selling point for the Flames is all our players are single year cheap costs, whereas all those guys have multiple years left.

Not sure if the Flames are targeting 1st rounders,

They might want players or prospects that have been in the league for a couple years

(i.e. not a rebuild)

A lot of it will come down to the draft board. I expect a lot of teams to use the clock tomorrow.

I hope Conroy and team deliver. The team needs it.

The way Steinberg was just talking, Lindholm isn't on the trade market at all. They're still waiting for direction from the player...which I think is just stupid.
If you take out recent drafts and look at 2010 to 2019 drafts, 10 years' worth of top 5 picks I count half of the guys selected to be as good or close to as good as Lindholm. So, if the returns on your players are not good and you only are adding high end prospects through your own pick, why can't you keep Lindholm and sell whoever wants to leave and still draft 6-10?

I count 12 high end players that are top end centers or dmen and are better than Lindholm taken during that decade.

McDavid
MacKinnon
Matthews
Draisaitl
Barkov
Pettersen
Eichel
Hughes
Dahlin
Heskinan
Ekblad
Makar

These guys are worth the rebuild but you have 24% chance of getting someone that much better than Lindholm. 40%-50% chance you get nothing more than depth players or a bust with the top 5 pick, depending on how the following develop:

Kakko
Dach
Byram
Turcotte
Hayton

None of these guys are looking like they will be better than Lindholm.

With Philly going full tank, Anaheim, Chicago, San Jose, Arizona, Montreal. It might be real hard to get into the top 5 anyways.

It is looking like it might be smarter to keep Lindholm but sell the others who want out at this point.

If we did get a top 5 pick in 24, we likely aren't good during the ELC of that player with the returns we likely get for the guys we do sell. Star players are getting paid on their 2nd contracts, you still need to have a team around these young players after the rebuild.

Sec’s mention of a big trade offer for Lindholm over the weekend is another data point.

I suspect this is an effort leaking from the Flames camp to drive up offers more than anything.

Okay, If I were GM, I would say "Our players are expensive. Don't even ask the price. Or pay pre payment as 7th rounder just to start to talk".
