One of my all-time favourite Flames. I still remember his first point in Washington and his big smile. Killer finisher with underrated strength. Deadly in the shootouts.
The injuries were a disappointment. I'm still frustrated by it, partly because it didn't seem like the team nor his agent were advocating strongly for his health. He should have never played through the injuries the way he did. I hope the team has reflected on how Monny's career was handled.

Maybe he downplays injuries to the team but I know a lot of people were upset with his broken foot and his Calgary game. Lead to more injuries and than it didn't heal properly which prevented Montreal from trading him at the deadline.
Some players can be banged up, still be productive and play a lot of games, that isn't Monny. He needs to be smarter and better than other's in order to stay in the league.
Wish him nothing but the best and I always loved his time in Calgary

Montreal fired two of their long time medical personnel last week. Here’s hoping the new ones can keep the roster healthier. You can’t give a guy like Monahan the benefit of the doubt. Playing through a broken foot caused a season ending groin injury. I know it would have sucked missing the western road trip, but his season most certainly would have been longer.

Because they accomplished nothing ? Let’s not act like there’s no logical reason to have criticized that core over the entirety of their tenure

LOL overrated?
All he ever did, from before even getting to the Flames, is produce and all he ever got was crap and claims that he just road Gaudreau's coattails.
He is much closer to being the most underrated Flames player than overrated and the fact you claim he is overrated at all just further shows the disrespect and hate he gets.

The term “overrated” lost all meaning years ago. It apparently just means someone doesn’t like something.

wish we signed him. I'm worried he is going to be healthy and look awesome and turn out as another brad mistake.

The trade was a mistake. What happens going forward won't change that so I would rather hope he has success as he's a good guy and did everything the Flames asked of him.

It’s really too bad the flames couldn’t have had this kind of signing. If the team loses Lindholm and Backlund… Monahan would have been the perfect fit as a center to start a rebuild. A great leader and veteran who knows the franchise and has experienced being a young player rebuilding in Calgary. He also could have bunched back on a line with Huberdeau and, most importantly, staying healthy this coming year. If he wanted to be traded at the deadline to a contender, he could be moved for a decent return. Too bad.

Heralded as a "number one center" but couldn't skate with the puck. Was poor defensively. Was not physical nor did he use his body well. He had great numbers because Johnny carried him for years and years. When they were finally split up, Johnny maintained his point totals, while Monahan fell to the 4th line and was eventually scratched. There's a reason people moaned about Monahan for years and how the Flames needed a real number one center. His only skill was being a garbage man and shooting pucks when Gaudreau set him up.
On top of that, many reports indicated he played through injuries and also hid them from the training staff. This made his injuries worse, and prolonged the length of his absence, ultimately making the team worse, and making it so that he couldn't be traded for any substantial value.
Great team guy and great hair, but man oh man, overrated like crazy around here.

What is your excuse for the numbers he put up before Gaudreau?
He was a top draft pick in the OHL, led his OHL team in scoring by 30 points, was ranked top 5 pre-draft by most rankings and a top 6 draft pick, scored 22 goals as a 18 year old all before he even knew who Gaudreau was.
He then went on to play with Gaudreau and outscore the 3rd member of their line more often than not.
But sure because he had major injuries late in his career all that is ignored and he was carried by Gaudreau.
