So is the process; We first find our permanent GM then he/she will help out with the process of finding a brand new coach? Is that the appropriate steps to take?

What happens if the new GM wants to hire Sutter?

The story I heard the most that riled up people in the org was his mistreatment of younger players, like Brad would try to bring them up and people wanted to do the right thing and fly Pelt's parents in etc. for his first game and then Sutter would play mind games and never play them. People were flabbergasted with this treatment of young players and their families and when Sutter finally did play them, it was out of spite for people trying to tell him what to do.

Maybe it's true that Treliving just wanted a break.

(I did see Treliving getting fitted for a suit downtown last week so I dunno)

Keep Huska, has done well with the defence for the past few years.
He's two time coach of the year in the AHL, and if he makes it to the Calder Cup this year then another NHL team is going to come knocking.

If anybody sees that as cheaping out they would be crazy...letting him leave could be like Columbus letting Bednar go to Colorado.

I am not too surprised. Maloney didn't exactly give him a vote of confidence when it was announced Treliving was leaving. They just needed time to weigh the options.

I hope this is a sign that there will be a bit of a youth movement on the roster.

I don't think that will be the sentiment from potential coaches. As someone said, everyone in hockey knows what Sutter is like. I think most candidates look at that roster and think that's a team that is almost certainly going to be better next year than last - which makes for a pretty good coaching opportunity.

that's what happens when as a coach you go from being a firm hand to being a complete asshat.
He deserved to get fired.

With the top-heavy contracts, we really need someone who can work magic with young guys at the bottom of the roster. Love has experience (and a lot of success) with these guys, I've come around to thinking he's the perfect fit.

Help guys like Pelletier, Ruzicka, Duer, etc, find another level. Hopefully help someone like Phillips look like an NHLer.

A nice bit of youth. A full season of Coronato. Wolf up. Kylington back. A big morale bump for the guys who struggled.

That feels like a playoff team to me.

It's kind of funny.

He was Treliving's mentor, he was the one that hired Treliving into the Coyotes organization, and he actually had the most success Arizona ever had in his time there under the worst conditions in the NHL.

Yet people that were supporters of Treliving were really quick to write Maloney off for some reason even though they liked Treliving, and if anything Treliving is probably the biggest Maloney supporter.

Sutter is a coach who could take this team all the way. Best coach in franchise history in terms of getting results.

He's also the coach who buried Ruzicka, Phillips, and to a lesser extent Pellettier and Coronato. He had to go.

I wish he had been more open to playing youth regularily and not having a double standard for 24 year olds vs 24 year olds.

Young, hungry, fast teams have an edge over aging, accomplished veteran teams. We see it throughout the season, arguably we saw it when Florida knocked off Boston yesterday too.

Wish Darryl all the best. I wish Markstrom had shown up against the Oilers in last year's playoffs and gotten us to the Cup.

Hopefully whoever is next (Mitch Love is making an impeccable case!) can guide this team forward, even if the first year is more akin to Bednar's first year. Is our first lotto protected?

I like Sutter as a tactician and motivator, but his lineup decisions were brutal this year. Can’t help but think we could have had those 2-3 more wins this year if we went with a youth movement in the forward lines and had Ritchie, Lucic, Lewis slotting in and out.

Just a guess, but i wonder if they have zeroed in on the next GM and that person told them they wanted to hire someone else as a coach, but they didn't want their first duty to be the one who had to let Sutter go. I know if it was me, I wouldn't want my first task to be something that big and expensive that I would be judged on from that point forward.
