The salary cap creates parity because every team has an opportunity to sign big free agents, not just the Rangers and Leafs.

It's an old narrative that just isn't true anymore.
I don’t think the Rangers (or the Isles) were serious bidders for Johnny.

Seems to me like the Blues got hosed. The only asset they are getting back is a late first round pick. Blais is a healthy scratch, the prospect is garbage and the fourth rounder is meh.

lol Patrick Kane...a member of another team, is publicly mad the Rangers made a different trade and might not be able to fit him in now

2023 first for 30 games of a player you didn't protect in the expansion draft

Blais is just salary, he is also UFA

Blues did fine

Mikkola is a sneaky good pick up. I think he can play into the top 4 in a pinch. Was hoping the Flames would have been able to snag him for cheap from the Blues

Drafted
Shesterkin
Lafreniere
Kakko
Kreider
Chytil
Kravtsov
Miller
Schneider

Trade
Zibanejad
Trouba
Lindgren
Goodrow
Tarasenko
Gauthier
Hajek

Free agent signing:
Panarin
Trocheck
Vesey (retread, but had his ELC with the Rangers and was developed by them)
Harpur
Halak
*Fox (He was actually traded to the Rangers. I'm only throwing this in there because it was known that he would test free agency and sign with the Rangers if possible)

There's no reason to talk like this about the Rangers at all. It's an old narrative that doesn't apply anymore in a salary cap league where lots of factors go into where players decide to sign.
Fox, Trouba and Panarin all forced their way/signed there. C'mon man, that's an elite trio of their core and along with Shesterkin, the reason they are where they are. Not to mention the players that have no trade clauses that NEVER feature New York, and often have the Rangers on a short 5-10 team list.

They have a massive advantage and the current team with ether elite talent is a testament to that.

What? The best free agents pick their locations and mostly pick California/Florida/New York teams. Gudreau was a complicated family dynamic where his wife didn't want him on the east coast, but together they chose to be close enough to near that area, while still being away from it.

Kadri is one example yes, and even he wasn't a top tier free agent. He's 32 years old and coming off a career best season, there's a reason he sat around for a lot of the summer until he accepted that we wouldn't get paid what he hoped.

Even amongst Ranger fans its known they can't build their own players. Lafreniere and Kaki have been wildly disappointing given draft position

Good deal for the Rangers, especially if they can get him re-signed.
