One player who is often overlooked, and I had a hard time to include on my list, is Joey Mullen. He's a player who should be much higher up on everyone's list for all-time top Flames.

Then Im torn between Vernon and Kipper.

Yep, it’s time to let someone else where #14.

if anything, this thought exercise has reminded me that Johnny was just following the great 90s tradition of being an amazing player that left under bad terms lol

Fleury is our slave-owning President.
But honestly I'm not sure he makes it on his own merit...he's on the Gio/Gaudreau level for me.
Iggy/MacInnis/McDonald for sure.
4th slot is tough, but I lean to Kipper

Between Kipper and Vernon, Kipper is the better goalie. But for this, I go with Vernie for the cup and connection to the team and community as a Calgary kid.

It's not a Rushmore without Cliff Fletcher for assembling those great 80s teams.

^That's a great point. I was thinking about players only but that's too narrow.
Bingo can we add Fletcher to future rounds?

I'll add Fletcher, Bob Johnson, Terry Crisp, Bearcat Murray and Darryl Sutter
Oh and Peter Maher and Ed Whalen
I see this more as a player thing, but happy to be wrong.

It blows me away how little recognition MacInnes gets among fans. Was just because he had a decent career in St Louis too?
5th all time games played (more than Theo, Johnny, Kipper, Niewey)
3rd all time in points (only 8 behind Theo, and is 200+ points ahead of Johnny)
7th in PIMs ahead of guys like Iggy, Suter and Regehr
Literally STILL in 1st place all time for assists with 609 vs Iggy 570, who also played 400+ more games.
I needn’t remind you that he’s a d-man which makes the numbers even more impressive. A Conn Smythe winner for good measure.

I wonder how much age does play in that one. He really feels more like a Blue. While being our best player he wasn't the captain. And a lot of the other folks from that period settled in Calgary and Al stayed in St. Louis.
But you're right.

I have a hard time with Chopper because he considers himself more a Blue. Can you have someone on your Mt. Rushmore who doesn't self identify with that team?

IMO this should be a player thing. Off ice roles are a different category.

He'd have a shot at the Blues Mount Rushmore so it's hard to include him. Though if his career ended instead of going to the Blues he'd arguably be a shoe in.

I was curious about Points per game so I looked it up:
https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/team...nhl-stats.html
Top 9 have better than 1.0.
1. Kent Nilsson - 1.359
2. Guy Chouinard - 1.199
3. Mike Bullard - 1.154
4. Joey Mullen - 1.125
5. Doug Gilmour - 1.109
6. Joe Nieuwendyk - 1.068
7. Theoren Fleury - 1.049
8. Al MacInnis - 1.024
9. Johnny Gaudreau - 1.012
Chouinard did that in 3 seasons that must have been injury filled.
Bullard did that in 2 seasons, one was a full season with the Flames, the other he came over from Pittsburgh in an early season trade.
Gilmour was the next shortest tenure with 4 seasons with his last being only half of the season.
