No way Fleury makes it in this kind of scenario for me....way way to much off the ice stuff to be a face (or 1 of 4) of the franchise, even if his on ice contributions would get him there.
Iggy, Lanny, MacInnis.
Then Im torn between Vernon and Kipper.

Tricky for me. The first 2 are obvious (Iginla, Lanny) but then you are into some tricky stuff.
You have a number of players who were great but left the team in not great ways (Nieuwendyk, Gilmour)
You have a guy that should be on the list, but fancies himself more a Blue than a Flame (Macinnis)
You have a guy that should be on the list but has turned into a raving loon (Fleury).
You have a couple of guys who are up there in terms of games played but won very little here (Gio, and Backlund).
And you have a more recent guy who had a chance to be up there but also didn't leave the team on great terms (Johnny).
And then you have Vernon and Kipper as possibilities.

So I see a lot of people are showing their age. Fleury may be a nut job, but there were so very lean years and he was the only reason there were people in the building. But his heart and talent should not be over looked.
I do think Iginla will be number 1, he was a great leader and did a lot away from the rink.

Nah showing your age would be to discount McDonald or MacInnis. Turning away from Fleury is a lot more complicated than a birth certificate.

If we were going purely on single factors Fleury has a chance. However, discussions like these should be as much about legacy as it is about talent and statistics. Theo was sewering his legacy with Calgary and the Flames a long, long time before he went crazy cakes on Twitter.

I will agree that I did not see a lot of McDonald, but as a Flame he had 492 games 215 goals & 406 points.
MacInnis, I am not arguing with.

Iggy easily is the greatest Flame ever.
Seeing 5 votes for Fleury is gross.

Lanny if i recall correctly is the Flames leader for most goals in a single season (66 scored)
My vote is Macdonald as the 1st choice,
However top two are easy

1975 birth date here. Nothing to do with age.
But everyone evaluates these things using different criteria.
Part of the fun.

Like some on here, I was lucky enough to have followed and remembered the careers of both Lanny and Iggy. For me the tie breaker is hoisting the Cup. It's really all that matters at the end of it all. Who won a championship? So Lanny gets #1 in my books.
Then Iginla at a very close second. Had Jarome hoisted a cup, he easily gets the number one spot.
Vernon gets the goalie nod. Hometown boy, proven winner elsewhere, and a heck of a character.
And my off the board pick would be Bob Johnson. Terry Crisp merely babysat the blueprint that Bob Johnson built to make the 89 team a champion.

Fleury is complicated and I guess comes down to what you think of as important to be on a Mt Rushmore.
He was undisputed face of the franchise, most popular, everyone had his jersey, every kid playing road hockey or shinny thought they were him, and he had great individual numbers.
It’s all the other stuff.
I’ll probably vote for him at 3 based on what happened on the ice.

If a person wants to ignore off ice stuff I don't see it as gross, just a choice.

I'll just throw this out there...
Shouldn't the automatic inclusions be the players who have their numbers retired with the franchise? Iggy, McDonald, Vernon.
Then maybe consider the "forever a Flame" tier for number 4?

Iginla is a no brainer obviously.
Fleury (my favorite player growing up) has unfortunately made it easy to leave him off my list. If he hadn't gone completely whackadoodle publicly on twitter he would have been one of my picks for sure.
Gaudreau also would have gotten strong consideration but took himself out of the running with his antics this off season, and deciding to turn his back on the Flames and his legacy with them by taking less money to sign with a bottom feeding nothing franchise.
Will end up with Iggy, McDonald, Vernon and then have to decide between Niewy/Roberts/MacInnis for the 4th I'm thinking.

Not only have I been a fan since day 1 (well, not counting Atlanta), Theo was by far my favorite player when he was on top of his game.
Now I wouldn't vote for him at all. And no, he was never the only reason there were fans in the building. First, true blue Flames fans show up no matter what. Second, he never played on a team without one or more of Newy, Roberts, Makarov, Iginla, Reichel, MacInnis, etc.

I have been fortunate enough to have personal interactions with Lanny, Iggy and Fleury. So this obviously skews things.
Fleury was a straight up jerk. First time I met him he pulled up in his Viper in front of my workplace and I happened to be standing out front, I said "Hey Theo, nice car!" His response. "Do you mind?" He also borrowed money from a friend of mine (not a small amount either) who allowed him to play on his beer league team and totally ghosted him. Still owes him money to this day. Putting theo on Mount Rushmore, is like putting Trump on it.
Jarome was a very cordial guy, but very guarded. Ended up playing in the foursome behind him in a charity Golf tournament. He seemed more interested in what was in my bag, than chatting it up.... which I kinda understand. LOL
However, what Lanny did for my dad, was so far and beyond what you would expect of a sports icon.... I have relatives that were less generous people to me. Lanny truly is a prince. He's everything you perceive him to be and one of the kindest men I have met in my life. I have ran into him a handful of times since over the years. And he still remembers my name, and still asks about my dad. Truly a Calgary icon. And I have never heard a negative story about him, ever. So it probably sways my opinion quite a bit.

Isn't part of the ethos in Mount Rushmore that there is no "Number One"?
