Is anyone a little worried Markstrom isn't getting nearly enough action? I would think about sticking him in again tomorrow - Nashville is a possible 1st round opponent. Shake off some rust and prep for playoffs. Win-win.
As much as we love cheering Johnny and Tkachuk, it was really nice to see the 3rd line get some goals 5 on 5. Will need that for the playoffs. Go strepth. (streaky depth)

For everybody worried about Markstrom here's the brass tax:
-3rd in NHL GAA
-5th in NHL SV%
-1st in shutouts.
Even tonight with the hand wringing, was he bad? No, he let in one bad goal, the Flames average 3.57 G/GP... so he literally has to let in 3 bad goals before you start to worry or 4 bad goals before they risk losing.
He's fine and truthfully he's one of the best in the NHL as demonstrated in the numbers.
Brass tacks

I can't believe we went through 30 years and the entire career of Jarome Iginla without a skater having a single 100 point season and now we're looking at two players cracking that mark in the same year.

The stats only go back to 1997 for this, but Matthew Tkachuk already has the most points in that time frame for a player averaging less than 18 minutes of ice time per night.
Gaudreau the same for players under 19 minutes a game.
If NHL used soccer rules I expect Hawks would lead league in own goals. Seems like every game the puck is going in off of one of the Jones brothers.

So it’s going to be like that I see

22 seconds in. #### me.

Went to yell, "Nooo" and wound up choking instead.
Quote:
Maybe Hawks should have Jones brothers take turns standing in front of Calgary net as the puck loves to deflect off of them into the net?

I guess I’m a glutton for punishment

Gaudreau skates scott free from alk checks...making it look easy.
S.jones on...so now -37...only 3 more to go to -40.
Quote:
2 goals vs 0 shot
Oh
Quote:
On Gaudreau goal...Lafferty watching...Reichel watching..
Nobody bothers checking Goaydreau=pathetic ..Hawks taught to play an area bit never to skate with and check guysblike glue till they get pucks back...because I guess they simply can't skate fast enough ough to keep up so they defend a 5 for area they get caught in switch offs....bad system...bad lazy habits.
Gotta change this..

This team is so so bad.
Quote:
Were I the coach in this situation, playing for absolutely nothing at all, I’d just turn to the players and tell them to just go full pond hockey, do some crazy ####, play Lank as top line center, ice a line with no D-men, shoot the puck holding the stick like a pool cue, just utter nonsense for 60 minutes. Waiting to hear from Kyle.
Quote:
Wow Calgary just tosses it towards the net and it's going in tonight
Quote:
Lankinen has to be losing his mind with all of the deflected goals as of late.
Quote:
hawks have to score at least 5 with lank in net
Quote:
3rdcflames goal ...bad decision by S.Jonesvto send puck to boards where Kane fails to clear the zone..shot and another double deflection goal..no chance for Lankinen..deflects off Flame s pjayer then off who else D.Jones into our net.
So now S Jones at -38.
CHANCE FOR -40 LOOKING REAL GOOD tonight...
Next shift our S Jones falks down after tumbling over his own feet.. He stinks.
$9.5 indeed.
Quote:
they either pinch too hard and give Calgary numerous breakaways or they get caught puck watching and leave a player wide open in front of Lank. pretty tough to watch so far.

You guys want to stop forgetting about Gaudreau?
Quote:
It's going to take whoever comes in to coach this team FOREVER to break the bad habits that have set in. This team plays terrible hockey. They have absolutely no concept of puck support. There is zero forecheck. They have absolutely no structure anywhere on the ice. It's like watching a bad beer league team play. Forwards blow the zone early, all three forwards at the center line when trying to breakout. Defensemen have no passing options. Nobody checks their man tightly anywhere on the ice. Just brutally bad hockey. This team is objectively worse than they were under JC in all aspects of the game, which is unfathomable.

Does Seth realize it's Gadreau on the ice when he's there?
So much IDGAF going on game to game.

When does pulling the goalie ever work out for us? Lol

Quote:
Yea Caleb Jones I’ve seen enough. Pucks Deflecting off him. Mishandling the puck, bad passes ,getting out worked along boards. No more of him for this season King please !!
Quote:
Lank is off the ice for a few seconds and POW right in the kisser.
Quote:
Stop pulling the goalie. You're not good.
Quote:
I’ve never seen a team so ####ing bad with an empty net man smh
Quote:
Well I predicted 6-2 Flames so 5-2 pretty close.
I thought S.Jones woukd go -4tlnoght and reach -40 but he failed...only went -3...so we mist wait for hom to go -1?or more next game tovreach that illustrious negative milestone ...He still has 6GR to reach it or exceed it...maybe -45 for the season.
Quote:
We are a team comprised of a superstar, two stars and a bunch of average to poor NHL players. Not a good prospect pool either. Dach might still work out. Reichel has a good shot. Right now its no surprise that isn’t enough. Add poor goaltending and coaching and you are looking at one of the worst franchises in the nhl. Some people seem pissed about it. I don’t understand why. That’s just how it is.
Quote:
Well gg Flames, good luck in the playoffs!

I’m excited to see the Flames in the playoffs. The atmosphere in the building looks insane from what I’ve seen in the past. It’ll be intimidating for whoever y’all face.

Ready to sign a fat contract in the off-season
Quote:
Gaudreau's closest comparable has to be Panarin ($11.6). Both full UFA contracts and similar production. He also has to look at Marner as a comparable ($10.9) whose contract even covers RFA years.
Also keep in mind Gaudreau is American.
Can't imagine why he'd get any less than $10M

I have to say Tkachuk cherry picks almost as much as Johnny.

The one that baffles me completely is Joe Juneau had the left wing assist record for almost 30 years and it was broken this year by Huberdeau and very likely Gaudreau as well.
