And it would seem that he’s perfectly happy with that role. Which isn’t an easy individual to find.

He is better than that, the guy can actually play in the NHL. He's not some emergency beer league goalie.

Honestly if his only role is what you describe they'd be better off saving the salary cap space and for the one game a decade that a defenseman gets hurt in pregame, just play with 5D.

Sutter doesn't seem married to the L/R shot thing. At least not last time he coached here.

And it looks like when he coached in LA he only had 3 Right shot D most years. Right shots are rarer, when injuries happen you make do.

It’s not his only role, but it’s a big part of why he’s around. I also imagine had Gudbranson or Zadorov gone down that we’d see Stone. But I imagine a call up for Kylington.

Huh?

Not a single game this season things havent started that way.

Even in-game im trying to remember when he had 2 LH or RH shots out together on D.

Not an official update but Boomer this morning said he reached out to the team who hinted that they may have "dodged a bullet" with the incident.

Treliving on now (Fan 960)

Tre says when speaking with Oliver it was more his shoulder, lost his wind, worked out/treatment yesterday and anticipate he skates today

In the case of a short term fill-in, and Stone v. Valimaki v. Mackey, I’d say it’s not so much what Sutter wants as far as RH/LH, it’s what the player is able to do. Stone has played both sides IIRC.

But I suppose there’s other factors like fit. Who plays most like Kylington, assuming they slot into the same spot to avoid messing the other pairings?

Oh sure if its one game...maybe even two.

Beyond that i suspect a call up but it sounds like all that has been avoided for now.

Yeah if it's only one game they will probably just give Stone a game.

I'm sure you have noticed that there have been essentially no injuries this year. I still see Stone as the 7th D, and not just a last second emergency replacement. He will get first crack at the lineup IMO.

You're forgetting probably the biggest factor right now.

Treliving seemed to brush the idea of a call up off this morning, and did mention that they had an extra body (Stone) if needed

Obviously the lack of major injury would be the best possible outcome. But those few motionless seconds and then the wobbly skate back to the bench is tough to ignore, from the perspective of a fan that has no other objective information to go on. I wish him all the best.

Great news with Kylingon. I still hope they work Stone in and give Oliver another day to recover as he's got allot of hockey left to play this season as I see it.

The Flames heavily utilize board rim passes in the O zone, but that’s non-existent on the PK. I don’t think this entirely negates a strong preference for handedness at 5-on-5

I think Sutter had Gudbranson with Stone for a full game earlier in the season when Valimaki and Zadorov were still both vying for that spot.
