Why are people suggesting we go after Max Domi? Are we in need of someone with a ridiculous cap hit that takes stupid penalties?

You mentioned losing Gaudreau for nothing. It would suck of course, but I don't think it has to end in a rebuild.
There are a lot of skilled forwards that are having a great season we might bring in with that cap-space. Kadri is playing at a 1.46PPG pace, then you have Bryan Rust 1.33PPG, Foresberg, Pavelski, Malkin, Burakovsky, Giroux, Hertl, Nichushkin, Palat, Trocheck, Smith are all intersting skilled forwards potentially hitting the market this off-season.
Gaudreau without a doubt has been the Flames MVP this season, but this team is capable of being a good team even without him. It depends a lot on who we will bring to fill in that void, and scoring more by committee. The Islanders lost Tavares and were just as good if not better in the following season.

I'm still on the Eberle & Hot Dog Phil bandwagon and will be personally offended if they're dealt anywhere but Calgary

Push some chips in, but not big ones. Supplement the forward ranks with a player or two. Do not trade the 2022 1st, Pelletier, Coronato, or Wolf.

The 1st this year is going to be between 18-25. When you trade Tkachuk and Lindholm, you can get some value back, and what you really don’t want to trade is a future lottery pick.
But they’re not finishing in the lottery this year.

How about Giordano back and Eric Stall off his gold medal in Beijing. Couple of old guys for Sutter!

You have to buy IMO. Odds are we aren't getting a top pick and we have some good prospects that could be available.
I'd like to see Valimaki and a first for a big physical goal scoring winger and hopefully the player has some term too.
This year could be a good year to buy as basically every non playoff team in the East is eliminated.
Already looking like a couple teams in the West are as well and a few that are very close.
There could be 10+ teams that are selling which is rare for the trade deadline.

I think all-in this year.
In my opinion, this is the best performing team we've seen since Darryl was last here. Absolutely relentless. They come in waves and consistently play the right way. The team has clearly bought in. Career years from our top players. As we know from the past, Darryl's coaching style does have a shelf life. This is as good an opportunity as it gets.

The Flames also currently sit #1 in the NHL with 104 goals against.
You finish top 5 in GF or GA, you can make the finals.

All-in; now or never.
Ideally 1 forward with a bit more term at a reasonable AAV

Agreed you just never know. Sometimes grinders step up in the playoffs and we could get elite goaltending so you just never know this team is pretty close and has a guy like Ritchie playing and doing nothing
Flames are a top end 5 on 5 team and on the PK. Pp is average but add a goal scoring RW and this team could be top 10 on the pp too.
They are 1 player away from being a threat and if you go for it it should help with Gaudreau and Tkachuk contracts. They will stay if this team gets out of the first round or 2.

Just when are people going to stop bringing up a no win situation? Curious?
How about postulating something that actually could happen? Fairly certain Jack isn’t the only top six Center in the league.

The Vegas situation is resolved yet either. They aren’t healthy and they have a lot to figure out. Let’s just beat Eichel in the playoffs

Brad's inability to address this issue in the off-season has legitimately handcuffed this team in potentially gearing up for a run, this year and next.

Certainly true, the chorus isn’t over, but it does lead me to the question again a top six Center.
Who is a young top six Center that can be traded for?
Hertl won’t play here of that I’m fairly certain.
Barzal I don’t think is going anywhere rumours.
Not interested in wheeler unless it’s PLD coming back, again not happening.
Christian Dvorak has come up but is he a huge improvement on what we have. I don’t know?
Kadri going into a huge long term deal, but it’s him sooo.
So who is a realistic target?

Rentals are less costly to acquire than players with term. And you keep flexibility going into next season.
I hope the Flames pick up a rental or two up front.

The Pens' second Cup, Kessel should have got the Conn Smythe. That's how good he was.
He just needs to be motivated, and it's easy to motivate players in the playoffs. Offer him a hot dog every goal he scores. Hot Dog Phil.

Getting Max Domi would be funny because that would make 9 players/prospects from the 2013 first round that have been through the Flames organization at some point. Gotta catch'em all.
