Now things are getting interesting... does picking Price “price” them out of someone like Gio?

Sure they will - one year deal that they can still flip with retention - though they’d probably be better off keeping him to lead their D.

If Price is overpaid, he’s overpaid by $2M at most. I’m sorry, but that’s not enough to not have an X-factor like that between the pipes.
Plus, Seattle can still take Driedger to play 30-35 games of more. What matters is having that guy healthy and ready for April, because he can take a team with no first line players at any position to the SCF.
Seattle will have first line players.
|
Driedger wont sign there if they take Price.
He wants to be a starter.

Thats 38 Million on 5 players.
Literally not a chance they take them all if what Francis wants is cap room....which he has said is his most valuable asset.

Either way - they can draft a quality backup. Get Cam Talbot. Perfect guy to spell Price.

I think the Kraken pass on Price...
Contract portability being as big a consideration as salary.
Money isn't the problem. Flexibility factors in and five years is a long time.

I wouldn't take on Price's contract even if Montreal offered their 1st.
Not that surprising.
Almost 34 years old, 10.5 mill AAV, 5 years left, and 3 out of the last 4 seasons under 91%...
Despite a good playoffs (92.4%) he's clearly been on the decline for a while.
Add with the other options available, and Seattle would be crazy to take on the contract.

Voracek - Duchene - Tarasenko
XXXXXX - Domi - XXXXXX
Gio -
Price
Driedger
They are already getting some nice pieces if they so choose.
I imagine free agents will be happy to sign there as well, because of how good Vegas was right off the bat players won't hesitate to go there for fear of being on a crappy expansion team.
I could see Hamilton signing there easily.
Martinez, Hall, Landeskog, if they make it to UFA I could easily see any of them signing there to be a part of Vegas 2.0

Price isn’t declining, he’s played for dog #### Montreal teams for his entire career.
Put him on good teams, and those teams win.

Add me to the list of those who think there is zero chance they take Price.
He had an excellent playoff, but has been regressing for some time.
Just too risky, especially with lots of goalies available.

I saw a lot of mock drafts and speculation about Seattle taking Jake Allen. This is obviously a gamble on the Canadien's part.
Jake Allen is a decent goaltender who can still fetch something in a trade should the Canadiens decide to deal him.

I’m on the side that they won’t take price. That said if they want a face of the franchise ,right off the back for marketing, price would be that guy.

Price with a solid blueline in front of him? That's pretty tempting if I'm Francis.
I know the Kraken weren't going into this looking to spend to the cap, but maybe they reconsider now?

There is no way Seattle will take Price. That contract is just too much and with cap at such a premium there is not any chance. I would love to see it but it isn't happening.

The Athletic has published an article specifically quoting the CEO of the Kraken as saying he authorized Francis to spend to the cap to build a contender as soon as possible.
Which makes perfect sense. Paying $650 million for a franchise and cheaping out on players would be like buying a brand-new Lamborghini with retread tires.

Fleury wasn't making $10.5 million a year to age 38. He was making just over half the money for less than half the remaining term.
