Freedom customer here too. This is going to really suck for me it it goes through. I can't see them grandfathering Freedom cell plans.

I finally broke down and got a sim card this year, because I could get a free one with Shaw. I suspect that will be short lived. Damn you telecoms! Damn you all to hell! Not giving them money was one of my key points of stubbornness.

Gonna be interesting to see how Trudeau spins this. Blocking the deal is in the best interest of Canadians and would play extremely well for the next election, but I'm sure all of his owners that fill the Liberal coffers are demanding that this goes through

Are these companies known Liberal supporters? I wasn't aware of that.
Its definitely going to be interesting to see how this goes. There's still a wide spread between the deal price and share price, which doesn't indicate the market thinking it's a done deal, but that might be unreliable as well.

Shaw was north of the Bow River and Rodgers was south. But not since mid 80's.

We had Telus ADSL, but got Starlink six weeks ago at the office. We all love it - no issues with connectivity or periods of downtime. It's simply amazing how easy it is to hook everything up too.
If you're concerned about Canadian competition now, I'm waiting for 5-10 years when Starlink has a global monopoly on Internet access. Lol.

Isn't Starlink pretty expensive? I saw some folks on Redflagdeals saying it was about $135 per month. I guess for rural folks that might be decent but in a major urban centre that seems pretty steep.

Everyone should let the government and the competition bureau know what they think of the buy out. The more feedback the government receives the better.

(I didn't say this but should have, they should be very worried that slow, poor service, overpriced monopolies falling victim to the netflix effect when services like starlink start to launch and defy boarders, I think entrenching a corporation that Canadians are already unsatisfied with will only serve to make our resiliency to this worse).

Part of the deal is that Freedom prices are locked in for 3 years, so at least there’s that timeline provided.

They could add that to your bill.
Countdown until Rogering: 1095 days.

You can still get that now bundled with their gigabit internet tier from Shaw Mobile. I'm on that plan right now. If you're interested, sign up in the next year before this pricing disappears when Rogers takes over.

Had an idea!

There are bigger issues than just to the consumer. Shaw runs a pretty big fiber backbone in Canada, and a lot of local ISPs and private companies use them for transit and bandwidth.
More consolidation means less competition in that space as well.

Ah, thanks. It's more internet than I need, so I won't be switching.
(Since sharing our deals only helps consumers, here's what I have: $30/month unlimited Canada+US calling, International Texting, "unlimited" data throttled after 5 GB with Freedom, $55/month 150/15Mbps Freedom Home Internet.)
