I like riding my bike but I will never be fool enough to presume it gives my the right to a share of a traffic lane built for cars.

Then you are creating increased danger for other cyclists and for wherever else you are riding when you should be on the road.

Take the lane.

You don't have to presume anything, the law gives that right.

lol, are you kidding? Do you ride on the sidewalk like a nine-year-old? I don't get what the concern could possibly be and how you'd get around riding on the road. Like, at least to the paths surely you'd have to be on the road.

My fair city has hiking/biking trails that are far from the roads but you do have to cross at the lights occasionally. And yes, I ride like a drunk nine year old.
Taking up a lane in traffic just to prove the law is on my side is ludicrous hubris.

I grew up riding in traffic like everyone else and never had a problem. Learn the rules of the road, hand signals, stay in sight at all times. Bike lanes are a pain in the ass for all.

Thanks for posting those links. Much appreciated!!
Did anyone get their E bikes yet? I ordered two on the 28th. Got the confirmation email but nothing since. The charge hasn’t even been applied on our credit card yet.

I got an email in the 1st that mine was ready for pick up at the 130th location. Grabbed it yesterday but haven’t put it together yet.

When did you purchase it? Before the 28th?

Ha!! Vehicle drivers can't get along for the exact same reasons, not sure why we would expect cyclists to magically all be on the same page

I was wrong. I got the pick up email on the 31st and I ordered on the 29th. They must have had some at my location.

Still waiting for my order placed late on the 27th too. Nary an update from LD so far after the original email.

Some guy on Red Flag's forum posted that they have them in stock at full price where he is, so I'm optimistic they're not out of stock and are just backlogged shuffling these things around the country.

I emailed LD yesterday too and will update if I hear anything of interest.

Edit: Small update. I noticed that the authorization on my credit card had disappeared but hadn't reappeared as a processed charge, so assumed the order had been cancelled. Gave LD customer service a call and they said nope - order is in transit and I should expect an email when it arrives at the local store. Not sure how the charge is going to go through exactly, but hopefully it works out...

Further edit: Just received the email advising me it's at the store and ready for pick up. Looks like they were indeed just catching up on all the orders.

My concern with getting an ebike would be the temptation to not pedal all the time and not get the benefits of a work out - ie stay in shape, keep the gut off etc

I wonder how much that happens to people.

Default What are your thoughts on Ebikes?

Throttles are illegal in Alberta. Not that I ever had an issue. But honestly, you’ll rarely use it. It’s just fun to be on the bike. If you had a hard day, or you’re racing bad weather, then I imagine you’ll crank the pedal assist, but most of the time it’s nice to be able to just maintain a steady cadence regardless of the incline.

Also, as I said earlier. Evidence shows that people who eBike ride further and more often. If you’re getting your HR into the 120-135 bpm range you’re in an ideal range for weight loss.

An eBike makes that easier to achieve and maintain.
