I just tried the simulator for the first time and got pretty solid results.

1. Florida (imagine that with the hiring of Quenneville)
2. Detroit
3. NY Rangers

Colorado, LA, and New Jersey all dropping 3 spots. Vancouver and Edmonton dropping 1 spot.

How many ping-pong balls do they have to have in the bowl to get out of probability decimals?

I just want Colorado to get the pick, only to spite Ottawa for being silly enough to trade that pick.

I don't actually want Colorado to get the pick.

I kinda want Vancouver to win the pick so they can go from the Sedin Twins to the Hughes Bros. era. But I don't actually want that to happen, it would just be amusing.

What I really want is non playoff Eastern teams higher in the standings the Oilers to win all 3 spots to bump the Oilers down. So, Philadelphia, Florida and that's it. So which Western team would be best? Arizona maybe? They deserve some luck after a year full of bad luck.

All that matters is the Oilers get bumped 3 spots and they don't pick Dylan Cozens (in case he falls out of top 5 or the Oilers win one of the picks). Being a Lethbridge fan I've come to really like Cozens and I don't want to cheer against him like I already do for Stuart Skinner.

This is what I have been saying. Just a very strong feeling the last couple days that the Wings will win this time.

I hope the oilers win the lottery this year. I also hope they win the lottery next year. And, you'll see a pattern here, I hope they win it the following year. They can continue this pattern until the end of time and it would make me ecstatic. I don't see a downside if the oilers win the lottery every single year.

Except the talent levels in the NHL would dwindle significantly with the Oilers ruining all the top stars from each draft. A near miss for 3 more years, picking 15th or 16th each year, followed by a surprise playoff appearance (accompanied with being swept), then a few more years of picking 15 or 16. That's ideal.

I hope Bill Daly pulls the Edmonton card for 1st overall and then throws the whole pile of cards in the air and storms out.

Ew that’s disgusting, please rescind this from the universe.

Tried the simulator and got first try of:

1-Edmonton
2-Detroit
3-Florida

Some part of me thinks it would be funny if they actually won and it takes 5 first overall picks for them to be some form of respectable again.

This is probably the absolute best case scenario

There is no way you can keep 23 #1 picks on the same team in the salary cap era. Players seem to play well once they have moved on from Edmonton, such as Taylor Hall and Ryan Strome. They don't even always pick the best player, or player they should pick. The talent level will be fine. The narrative gets funnier by the year, with more number one picks continuing to not make the playoffs.

Dismayed that people want Detroit in the top three. Was so sick of them dominating the western conference every single year when I was a kid. I'd be perfectly happy to see them wallow in mediocrity for another five years.

There are 14 balls in the hopper and they draw 4. If you pick 4 balls out of a total pool of 14 and don't care about the order, there are 1001 different combinations.

They assign 1000 of the combinations to the non-playoff teams according to the predetermined percentages. The 1001st combination is unassigned and if it comes up, it is ignored, and they redraw.

I feel like such a dork, but this is probably the most interesting thing said in the thread so far.

Happy Oilers Stanley Cup Day!

Too funny the Avs basically followed my EA NHL16 GM strategy of trading for future 1st rounders and hoping to win the lottery.

Just ran the draft sim and got Devils 1, Kings 2, and Rangers 3. That would be a really good outcome.
