I was under the impression that Gagner, Pouliot and Del Zotto were one year deals. Outside of Pouliot (rfa) those are terrible deals.

Said someone, every trade deadline day for the last, like, 4 years. Seriously this guy is the definition of TDL trade bait.

Getting a player they had interest in a couple years back isn’t blowing the deadline.

Tyler Motte was one of the players the #Canucks asked Chicago about during trade negs on Dan Hamhuis two years ago

are they really though?
3 years for Gagner is the worse one at a cap hit of 3.1m but it's not that bad. He's got 23 points in 54.
Del Zotto at 3m for 2 years is a good deal, he is one of the higher minute d man for the Canucks and has 18 points and lead the team in hits.

It doesn't really matter if they got a player they were interested in before when he was the only offer on the table. Says something about Vanek too.
Iain MacIntyre @imacSportsnet
Not only was no draft pick ever offered to Canucks for Vanek, Motte trade from CBJ was the only concrete offer.

Well, then, he didn't do a good enough job of creating a market for a player who's scoring at a pretty high rate. I mean, just for one example, Toronto has a bunch of things it doesn't even need and have at times been playing Komarov on the top line; Josh Leivo and a fourth would have made enormous sense for both sides there, particularly as Tampa and Boston both got better this week.

I don't think there is much of a market to create. Yesterday LeBrun was saying NHL coaches are telling their GMs they don't want Vanek because of his reputation of disappearing when games get tougher.

The Canucks should have known this when they signed Vanek with the intent to flip him for assets at the deadline. Vanek is the same player as Vrbata, who the Canucks found wasn't a market for either.
I honestly don't think the Canucks were expecting much from Vanek. If Canuck fans are disappointed in the return, they have only their own biased, delusional, lack of hockey knowledge to blame.
They shouldn't expect much from Gagner and Del Zotto either when it comes time to flip them.

I would've given up Shinkaruk, Poirier or Wotherspoon for Vanek.

Funny logic?
If he is no good, who would want him?
If he is no good, what kind of crap return would he get?
Dim Benning is no good but at least think about what you say

Some GMs are dumb, good GMs find out who they are and call them non-stop. Ray Shero probably doesn't let a day go by without calling up Peter Chairelli. Because eventually they decide to trade a top 3 winger in the league for your middle pairing defenceman.
Vancouver was allegedly offered a 2nd and a 4th for Gudbranson. Any GM that turns that down is a dummy. Hopefully Brad finds out who it was and calls them everyday.
