No worries there, that is not happening.

Doubt Elliott re-signs no matter what happens this season (short of a Cup win)
He looks miserable half the time

I really hoped we'd trade for Bishop at the draft. I was pleasantly surprised when we got Elliott instead, mainly because he was very cheap to acquire.
Elliott is getting gradually better, but if we could sign Bishop for the same money Elliott is on I would take that scenario.
Otherwise, I say sign Elliott to a cheap short-term deal and wait for Gillies to wrestle the starter's job from him next season.
I don't think there are any quick fixes in net these days, but luckily we have a couple of blue-chip goalie prospects, one of which is nearly ready.

Hey, if Elliott wants to be miserable and get passed around the league as a journeyman unable to establish himself as a go to #1 then that's up to him.
Or he can work on his weaknesses, get his technical game sound and make the most of this season and try buck the trend of these last number of Flames goaltenders. If you can't make it with the Flames, who have a long term starting position up for grabs, and you don't want it enough to get over a handful of bad games and pull it together, then you shouldn't be a starter anywhere in the league. Playing behind most teams isn't like playing behind St. Louis of the past 5 years. He's gonna have to do his part and make the tough saves.

It's time for management to go big game hunting for a Goalie this summer.

And I think, so would the Rangers, which was the point of the post. They're at a fork in the road, and I would be surprised if they chose Lundqvist over Raanta going forward.

It wasn't too long ago he was considered one of the top young goalie prospects. Might be a similar situation with Mrazek but I have a soft spot for Finnish goalies.
|
I think Korpisalo would flourish in a starting role, he just has not been given a chance Colmbus(which is understand able).
I think Mazrek would also be good but he would cost more.

This management knows how to target goalies, they went after Murray(before he got famous) and Jones from San Jose before he got famous.

Wish they could try Rittich, but no need if both signed goalies are healthy.

Who is nearly ready? Because based on stats (and nothing else, cause I haven't watched him this year) it sure isn't Jon Gillies.

Mrazek would be my choice if we could somehow get him cheap. Cheap as in I'd give our second round pick in a heartbeat.

I'd go after Mrazek too. Or Tom Brady.

Would Lundqvist be a fit on the Flames? He'll be 35 in a month, and still has 4yrs remaining @ $8.5M. That's a pretty scary contract, given his age, but we've seen elite goaltenders maintain their play until their late 30s before (Luongo is 37).
I'd be more comfortable with a 35yo Lundqvist @ $8.5M for 4 years, than today's MAF @ $5.75M for 2 years. Just say no to Fleury.
|
Lundqvist hasn't been amazing this year. Lots of signs pointing to his age catching up with his play. Has been better as of late but not enough to convince a GM to tie his neck to that noose of a caphit.

Would Mrazek be able to play 60+ games, while posting a .925 save % or better than league average and Goals against of 2.22 or better than league average, while winning the bulk of the games.

So using todays stats, we can only trade for Holtby, Dubnyk or Bobrovsky?

Pretty doubtful he would pick Calgary to play for in that scenario.

Oilers and Sharks have no regrets. I guess we tried this in a half assed way with Elliott but whiffed.

I would have been happy with Talbot or Jones.
