Good signing for Dallas, Hudler can be a Hemsky replacements for them. But Geezus they lost Demers, Goligoski and Russell (or Kevin if you look at it that way) and they're like. "Meh we probably have some AHL guys that can step in, right?"

Did Hemskey leave? I honestly don't know

Hemsky is still there. I wonder what his situation will be next summer when he is a UFA.

A lot of people are big on Hudler in this thread but I just get the feeling it's that nostalgic memory of the seasons he played where he put up career numbers. Historically he's always been about a 50 point kind of guy which of course are terrific numbers on this deal...
and I get that it's a cheap one year deal, but those playoff Florida games were dubious at best. 1 point in 6 games and he looked horrific. The end of the season with the Panthers from all reports wasn't great either. I think he may not be the Hudler we remember.

I think Hudler will have a good season in Dallas. He's shown he's a very good player when he's motivated. Nothing motivates a player more than having to prove yourself with a one year low value contract. I don't think Calgary would've gotten that Hudler had we re-signed him.

Will be interesting to see if last year was a result losing his heart/will to compete or just losing his legs. Even if he comes back with the proverbial "chip on his shoulder" it could be that he can't really keep up. He looked kinda slow.

Meh, it's not really yikes. Just mediocre. You can totally win a cup with that pairing, Niemi even has a ring to prove he can do it. The real problem for Dallas is that their defense is also mediocre at best.
Can't win with just forwards.

Wasn't he nursing a groin injury for most of the year? Not to mention the severe lumbering he took from Regehr the year before. He was still on pace for 47 in his 19 regular season games with Florida and now he's probably going to play with two of the very best offensive players in the league. Sharp and Spezza are no slouches either

Was just going to say that. Klingberg is a nice offensive defenseman, but he's not that strong in his own zone yet. He needs a solid defensive partner who can keep up with top competition. I'm not sure Hamhuis or Oduya is good enough to do that these days. Honka might be a good player soon, but he's really small, and might need protection himself.
Good news for Dallas is that they still have nearly $6 million in cap space to find a good defenseman throughout the year, but they might be banking that money in order to acquire someone like Bishop or Fleury.
Hamhuis-Klingberg
Oduya-Benn
Oleksiak-Nemeth
That's not the worst group out there or anything, but it's not good enough for a long playoff run, that's for sure.

Hudler always comes across as a bit of a flake, an eccentric. When things are going well you can deal with his weirdness but when they're not, he becomes tiring and you wish he'd put his head down and be serious.
The aloofness just wasn't as adorable when we where losing last season, and I wonder if coaches have felt the same.

They also have Johns (24) and Lindall (22) and Honka (20) who had they been obtained instead of Jokipakka would likely be penciled in as the Flames #4.
Dallas has been pushed into a spot where they have to make room for the young guys to play.
Honka and Lindall with 42 and 44 pts in the AHL are what we are hoping that Anderssen and Kylington will be in a year or 2.
How many games did Dallas lose because of bad goal-tending?
The style of play (similar to 2014-16 Flames) does not provide the goalies with great stats lines.
