This is where corsi% relative may take that into account - and they are pretty much even (and meh) there.

'Hawks just signed Richard Panik, RFA, to a 1-year contract...no details

After taking on Bickell's contract the Canes have 25M cap left with only Victor Rask as an important unsigned RFA and a goalie to replace Cam Ward on a team that was 9 pts better in the standing than the Flames.
The Flames need to sign Carolina's cap manager.

They havent made the playoffs in about 8 years, but they manage their cap beautifully

The trick is to have only 13 guys signed for next year.

Not to mention the Canes are losing money hand over first...they are literally living off an IOU to the league

One of the Chi radio stations (Dave Kaplan AM1000 (ESPN)) is saying that the 'Hawks retain 50% of Bickell's salary in this deal...I hope not, because if THAT is true, then throwing in TT to take 1/2 of Bickell's salary is MASSIVE overpayment.

I like this trade for the Hawks. Get rid of a terrible contract AND get a couple of picks.

Nice cap move. Both teams win. Seems like every couple of years the Hawks are involved with these type of moves. The players they cap move they replace through their system. Smart management, smart drafting.

Not giving Bickell $4mm a year for 4 years after pulling a Pasani is even smarter management. Yes, hindsight is 20/20 but every year there is that playoff performer who gets hot and subsequently overpaid. My 'money' was on Bickell that year.

No kidding. Bowman is a great GM but I find it funny how much credit he gets for getting himself out of messes he created. Teravainen is a good, young player he just gave a way for some scratch and wins. Sharp was given away too. He's pretty lucky he has an endless stream of UFA prospects falling into his lap every year to balance this stuff out.

this makes alot more sense to me, because previously it was like they paid for TT and took Bickell for free which makes little sense for the 'Canes, they should be paid to take Bickell and any part of that abortion of a contract.

What a dumb contract Bickell has though

TT really seems to be a perimeter player and Panarin made him dispensable.

What's with the smear rumors when a guy is shipped OOT? I thought only Boston did stuff like this?
Personally, I think this is garbage, a young man wanting to spend his off time at his HOME a continent away, shouldn't be pilloried for it.

Damn right its garbage.
Which Blackhawks? No player should care where their team mates train in the summer and maybe the Hawks management wanted him in North America so they could keep an eye on him, but he has every right to want to train back in Europe. If they really were bothered by where he spends his summer, he's probably better off out of there.

Vancouver had a similar smear campaign when they traded McCann to Florida for Gudbranson (call him entitled and not well liked in the dressing room).

Same was said about Hamilton in Boston. Amazing how often it happens.
