Met him last summer, I would agree with this observation. Not a head coach in my opinion

Sutter isn't just a good coach, IMO Sutter is easily one of the best coaches in the entire sport. Only guys that might be better than him are Babcock and Quenneville. And even those guys are debatable.

From Duhatschek's comments last week, I really doubt Sutter leaves the Kings. His family loves it in L.A.

But if LA Kings does not re-sign him or just let him go, I am sure he won't think twice about going back to Calgary.

Also, it was Duhatschek that says it and not ERIC FRANCIS.

Darryl Sutter's Flames used to line change while cycling the puck down low in the offensive zone all the time, it would be awesome to have our team able to do that again!

Calgary doesn't have the personnel to pull this off though.

Bennett, Colborne, Ferland, Gaudreau, Jankowski, Hathaway, Backlund, Frolik even Monahan all have the capability.

Now, it might come at the expense of being the 11th best goal scoring team.................

Think Darryl would be "fun" to have back here to see if he can go where he couldn't quite get in 2004.

OTOH it sounds like he wants to evaluate the Kings' draft plans and free agency grabs first, so that may be too long a wait for BT/Burkie.

I'm a fan of Sutter the coach but that's an odd comment considering the one coach who was able to actually push Backlund up a notch or two was Hartley.

Dallas Eakins. You know in his heart he hates the Oilers for ruining his career and would love to coach their rival.

This is an out of left field selection, but Phil Housley is an interesting candidate. He's transformed the Preds' PP into one of the best in the league despite their sub-.500 face-off percentage, and their d as a whole is really good despite the lack of depth. Also, the USA WJC team has medalled each time Housley was the hc, which includes gold in 2012-13

Voted Darryl because it would be cool. I doubt it will happen, and really I have no clue anyway.

I expect it won't be such a big name.

Sutter the only one on that list that really jumps off the page. Great coach, proven track record. Be awesome. I'd pick Hawerchuk of the up and comers but I don't like being the team that is trying out the new guy.

It's about hiring a coach who fits the profile, and restricting to experienced head chokes is a problem because you're pulling from such a small talent pool. We already know a guy like Carlyle doesn't fit the profile. Even a guy like Dineen, you can find reports of him getting tuned out in Florida so what's to say he's not boom or bust?

If he hires Green, he's going to pick Shinkaruk's brain on him.
If he hires Leaman, likewise with Jankowski and company.
I took a look at what Kevin Dineen had to coach when he was the Panthers coach. He somehow made the playoffs with an aged bad veteran team with only one guy above 60 points. The next season the Panthers were really bad, with a 19 year Huberdeau as the 2nd point getter, and Drew Shore (yes that Drew Shore that could not crack a rebuilding Flames lineup) playing as a 21 year old centre for almost the full season. Shawn Matthias (yes that Shawn Matthias) was 5th in scoring for crying out loud.

The guy is good, and has surely picked up a lot, and played a part in the Blackhawks success. He would be my pick now that Boudreau is gone.

I recall Warrener on the radio talking about him when he got fired as he still has a few connections with the franchise and he said the players couldn't stand him or his practice methods. I think there's a reason he hasn't found work in the league again as the Panthers gig really didn't go well for him.

Maybe, but he is not the greatest player to ever play the game but even more importantly, there is no statue of him in front of the oilers building.

I am sure it seems odd, I am not very good at expressing myself at times.

My comments are not a slight at Hartley, I just recall D.Sutter being very high on Backlund when he was drafted. Seeing how well Backlund played down the stretch I don't think we have seen the best of Backlund yet. Darryl being able to get the most out of his players may still get more out Backlund.

I'm just going to say this again: Luke Richardson. Slightly surprised nobody else has even voted for him. He has a pretty good resume.

Edit: I mean Jesus H Christ. Iron Mike Keenan has 3 votes so far. WTF?
