Hiller starting at all is an insult to Ortio and the fans IMO. The guy should be placed on waivers.

I don't think starting Holler against Toronto is a tank move. The Flames could start a minor hockey league goalie and still beat the Leafs. Are the Leafs still playing their junior lineup? They have the tank job nailed.

You don't speak for all fans, just yourself. Ortio will continue to start every home game I would imagine, I doubt he's insulted. In fact I bet he's pretty happy to have started as many games lately as he has.

Ortio is still looking for a contract for next season. I'm betting he's not happy sitting out any games.

Flames 4 - Habs 1. Whats the excuse now? Maybe we should wait until games are played before we accuse the Flames of tanking. Seriously they are professionals there is no way Hartley plays Hiller and expects him to lose. Whats worse a bunch of CP posters today said playing Backstrom was also tank job. Too bad when the Flames win the same posters have nothing to say yet post the same trivial at the next opportunity.

He's a professional, the Flames are not doing this to make Ortio happy; More likely coaches, people in the organization making assessments about the guys they are playing right now and in the next few games including Hiller.

If he expected to start every single game then he's clueless. We have back to backs.

Also with the way Ortio has played towards the end of his season, I'd expect him to get a short contract next year. I don't imagine flames management would be bringing in 2 new goalies to start next season unless something big comes up.

Why even bother starting Hiller at all? Oh wait, I guess Flames wants to make sure Toronto gets 2 points tomorrow so they don't get far ahead in Auston Matthews lottery. Seriously though I lost confidence in Hiller last season already. He wasn't as aggressive as early last season. He seems to just rather sits on his knees more and wait for the puck to hit him. I would rather just give Ortio more exposure late this season so he'll be prepared to fight for the #1 spot next season. Ortio's play has been great lately. Backstrom played well tonight against Montreal but he only played one game for the Flames and it was against a struggling team. I like his game and his control but I won't say that we should sign him next season just yet. I hope he keeps up his game so Ortio can watch and learn.

The Flames are doing Backstrom a solid by allowing him to attempt to earn a spot somewhere in the league next year. Affording Hiller another start or two in the final 10 games is extending him the same courtesy.

You seriously need to take a step away from the game for a couple days. Get outside and take in some fresh air.

Well it makes sense all around, Hiller deserves a peaceful sendoff. Give him a few, what the hell, it really really doesn't matter.

I agree that it is the classy thing to do.
What are people really complaining about here? If Hiller sucks it that game, it helps the Flames get a better pick. If he does well, Flames win. Either way, it is a classy thing to extend a notable vet in the NHL. It looks good on the Flames, and will help in the long run with future signings. It may help in the long run with a higher pick. It may help Hiller's career if he plays well.
I really think it is a no-lose scenario. Regardless of the outcome, it is a win.

And none of these games are.
You can't seriously think that a professional athlete fighting to establish himself in the NHL, going into contract negotiations, and finally playing in top form, is just fine with sitting out.

Honestly - do you think the other players care about classy? You may have made one guy happy (Hiller) and irritated the other 22 guys who have to play in front of him (or sit while he plays).
Is anyone going to turn down going to Minnesota because they pretended Backstrom wasn't on the team for the past year despite the fact he has way more goodwill with the Wild being there for so long than Hiller does with the Flames.
