I just don't think SE Va is a good idea. Its not really working in Raleigh and even the Capitalsnwere in trouble until they landed Ovechkin.

As much as the Oilers are no good, I can at least understand the Edmonton deal because it will help develop that city's terrible downtown core. The arena will revitalize one of the worst parts of the city which isn't bad, especially if it can bring in other business and even some residential development. I think the investment can pay off because Oilers fans still go to games, the arena will be close to public transit, etc.

Or it might do nothing, since that city is no good, and neither is its hockey team.

I've read somewhere the logic in going into less viable markets is to grow the total fan base, which theoretically makes for stronger TV revenues...

...another team in Toronto just takes viewers of one team and shuffles them to another team, thereby not growing the total fanbase
