Bad news Philadelphia, the law of averages dictates that given enough games, statistically speaking, Ramo eventually has to win one of them and you're up!
So....do you feel lucky?

There's a reason Ramo got a contract. He wasn't terrible.

Probably also a reason why no one else signed him

Everyone was pretty set on goalies; it wasn't anything to do with bad performance.
Hiller was rumored to SJ but they got Jones instead, and considering their performances so far, SJ probably feels like they dodged a bullet.

In other words, a serviceable backup. Nothing wrong with that.

Ramo is gonna have a fair chance to get his save percentage .800.
I wonder what's the lowest save percentage in history for goalies that played at least 10 games in a season?

Actually, the reason no one else signed him is that he was never actually a free agent. He re-signed with the Flames just before the free-agent signing period began.
EDIT: Of course, he may have had talks with other teams during the open negotiation period in June. I suspect that he may have had some other nibbles from teams, which would help to explain how his price got up to $3.8 million.

IMO it's becoming more and more evident that the reason the flames signed Ramo was not because they thought they had a trade for Hiller, it's because Hartely does not have confidence in Ortio. Not going to be shocked when Hiller comes back that Ortio will be put on waivers, clear waivers, and sent to the AHL.
|
Maybe that's a blessing in disguise tho...perhaps now they can waive Ortio without worry of him being claimed, have him spend more time in AHL and figure out wtf to do with Ramo and Hiller.

Scott Gordon played in 13 games for the Nordiques in 90-91, and let in 48 goals on 225 shots for a .787 save percentage. He is the only goalie with a 10+ game season on record on nhl.com with a sub .800 save percentage.
Looks like the NHL started recording the save percentage stat as of the 82-83 season.

Personally I'd prefer if they could send Ortio down and have him play there rather than be around this dumpster fire. I still think he has potential to be a starter with time. He didn't get those wins last season out of pure luck...bring him back when this team has gotten some of their isht together.

For the record, that 90-91 Nordiques team finished with a 16-50-14 record for a .288 points percentage. The Flames have a .269 points percentage so far this season.

Mission 2/3 accomplished. Now we just need to draft a Sundin or Sakic.

If you could bottle the Berra that the Avs have played 4 times this year then sure. The Berra we saw here for 20+ games or the past few years for Colorado? No thanks.

Scary thing? Berra when he was a Flame, still posted better numbers than the hot garbage we are seeing. 2.95 GAA and a .897 SV%.....
Wrap your melons around that for a second.
In his 20 GP with the AVS the year after..... 2.65 GAA and a shiny .918
It's pretty bad in Calgary right now dudes and ladies.
