The Flames had an 8 game losing streak last year, and still made the playoffs. Hopefully they're just getting the equivalent streak out of the way early, and this year they have 4 more points in the bank.

Believed that Hiller will be getting the start tonight. Ortio tweak something last night?
Totally kidding...

It's possible but this is hardly last year's team. The way things currently look, .500 over the last 74 games is a lot more likely than 19 games over .500
Last year's team played well during the 8 game skid. This year's team has looked mostly awful going 2-6.
It hasn't been bad luck that's held them back either, they've more than deserved each loss. During that 8 game skid, they deserved to win at least 4 of those games IMO. The trend for each team is is opposite directions.

Meanwhile in Colorado Reto Berra thus far in the 2015/16 season has a .975 save percentage and a .85 GAA with two starts. Who would have thought the Flames might ever rue that trade! Let's hope Ortio delivers in the net tonite.

Berra played well for the Flames in 2 games as well. It was the other 25 or so that he stunk.
Back on topic - Flames win this one 4-2
Goals from Bennett, Hudler, Monahan & Giordano

Flames win 5-2. Goals from Bennett, gaudreau (2), wideman, and Jones.
I called a 3 point night from the captain against Detroit so hopefully my prediction is right again.

They started 0-7-3 - three ties - and only made the playoffs because nearly two teams in three still qualified and the Pacific was one of the worst divisions in hockey history that year.

Did they? That's not what I recollect. Even so, I'd say they deserved to win last night, so that makes at least 3 of the games this year they deserved to win (obviously the two wins make up the other two). Puts them pretty much at the same point during that skid last year, and it took a miraculous comeback against L.A. to get confidence back in the team.
During that skid they looked pretty much like they do to start this year. Disorganized, poor compete levels, low offensive output, shoddy goaltending, low confidence. I remember people saying then how this was what the team really was, and then they went on to a pretty high winning percentage and a playoff spot.
Since they proved me wrong several times last year, I will never write off this group of players.

Good attendance to start the year at over 14500 per game. If the Panthers keep winning I imagine it will be a good year for attendance.

Are you referring to the nearly brand new Barclay's Center or the old Nassau Coliseum?

Agreed. But in addition I would say that the St. Louis game is also one that they certainly could have won. I recall being disappointed by the loss, but it felt to me like the Flames in that game from start to finish.
They have played three really bad games this yea: Games #1 v. Vancouver, and at home against Edmonton and Washington.

Based on pictures, the sightlines at Barclay's Center are absolutely the worst I've ever seen. Building was not designed for hockey at all, and it shows.
