I'm a Ducks fan. Second favorite team behind the Flames. I'm okay with the dollars, but agree with other posters that term is too long. This is gonna look like a terrible contract in years 4,5,6 if not before that.

Maybe Tre swoops in and relieves them of one of their young defencemen like he relieved Sweeny of Dougie

I think this might start looking bad as soon as this year. While I hate Kesler, I can admit he was a top 15 C from 2009-2011. The last few years, he just seemed 'off' compared to those lofty heights. I'm pretty sure he's already declining, the only question is how fast it happens and how low he goes. He's always been a great skater, but if he starts to lose that... watch out.

I saw one poster mention the Ducks had a lot of Cap Space so I went to check it out.
http://stats.nhlnumbers.com/teams/ANA?year=2016
They do have a lot of space, but I noticed they only have 12 forwards under contract and five of them are: Brian McGratton, Tim Jackman, Shawn Horcoff, Chris Stewart and Nate Thompson.
Is it safe to say there's not a lot of talent up-front after the #1 line and Kessler...and those pieces are fading fast?
I agree -> The Western Conference is looking more wide-open come 2016 / 2017 ish.

Ducks would be smart to go after Glencross on a short deal

This is a brutal contract. Ducks just made a huge gamble that last year wasn't a dead cat bounce because Kesler's been trending down since the 2011 playoffs.

I do agree that this deal has roughly set the market for Gio. I'm guessing Gio's deal gets done before 01Aug at 6x7 or 7x6.
I know which player I would rather have...
Also, as one poster mentioned above, ducks look pretty shallow after their top 4 forward. If they weren't a division rival, and likely playoff opponent, I would venture to guess they would be after some of calgarys low cost forward depth. And by this I'm referring to Granlund, Bouma and Shore, not Raymond and Bollig.
That said, if they are accumulating the 2011 canucks roster, they ca have Raymond for free.

The Getzlaf/Perry duo is nowhere near fading. Dominant players.

They didn't look so dominant against the Blackhawks.

Lots in here just hating this deal, and I agree. Unfortunately though all it does is remind me the Flames are likely going to have to do a similar thing with Gio if we want to extend him. Makes me think what we should actually be doing with Gio?

Did Kesler get a 'Western Conference Runner-Up' banner to go along with all of his silver medals?

How do people cheer for multiple teams? yet alone one within our own division?
And how do you like Anaheim? Perry Kesler Bieksa. Not to mention Getzlaf scoring in 2007(?) playoffs against us by grabbing the puck with his hand and placing it in the net. It's probably the least likeable team in the league behind Canucks and Oilers.
How can any FLAMES fan like them?

Since when is liking a team rational? People like who they like, don't be judgmental.

I never minded the Ducks before this year. There's nothing wrong with following numerous teams. As long as none of them are the Oilers, Canucks or Canadiens

So what's wrong with the Habs? I grew up as a Habs fan. They were winning the Cup every year at the time. Of course once we got our own team the Flames became #1 for me, but I still follow the Habs and like for them to do well. 1989 was the perfect year for me and I'll never forget how classy their fans were giving the Flames a standing ovation after they won the Cup in the Forum.

I love this contract because it's on a different team.
He's a #2 center. This is #1 center money. And it goes on until he's 38. With a guy who has been moody throughout his career. This will be a buyout contender within it's first 2 years in my opinion.

Every time I watch them now I get a "Canucks-east" vibe from the fans. Obviously not as fair weather but even more whiny
