Any idea how they justify the price and what does an extra $500 get you regarding urn quality? Do you have to buy one? Could you just decline and give them a coffee can?
Honestly no idea. The majority of them were marble (looking) and some were pretty intricate with engraving. Not sure how they justify it, but am guessing they're priced like that because people are actually willing to pay that much.

You don't have to buy an urn. They will give you the ashes in a box.

I think it depends on whether they bring the ranch on the side.

Me too. Especially the $399 for a website entry that probably took 15 minutes to input.

That was the assistant funeral home director.
He did nothing at the actual service, except stand and oversee everything. I would've thought his costs should be included in the "staff services" portion, but apparently not. He planned the whole thing though, and met with the family prior to the service, so the family members in charge of the service were ok with this charge.

We also don't know what the "funeral service vehicle" is, as we only had the 2 limos to take people to and from the service.

That is typically the hearse to transport the casket/urn to the burial site. However, if there was no transport from the funeral home to the final resting site, you could probably dispute these charges as it wouldn't have been needed.

Maybe that is the charge for the lead vehicle?

I hope that when I die the costs to put something into space have significantly reduced from what they are now.

Fire me into space with a note pinned to my chest:

Dear future humans and/or aliens,
Please bring me back to life using technology.
Regards,
karl262

If my plan works out, it will feel as if I just closed my eyes for a couple seconds.

The Folger's can is much cheaper and will likely have the same chance of success.

I've spent many nights lying awake pondering this and while a Folger's can might be cheaper, I don't think it would attract the attention needed for further investigation by future humans/aliens. It would just be another coffee can floating through the infinite void of space. Nothing to see here, move along.

I worked as a grave digger for about three years. tips are very common place but typically only came from families with very specific (very irritating) burial requests. i don't think that if you had a service and didn't tip you should be embarrassed in any way, however if you had to give the staff 'outside the box' (pardon the pun) instructions then a tip may be appropriate.
