Tough read on benching Sven tonight.

My heart says that they are benching him as he's made the team and want to provide space on the other bubble guys to see who steps up...

but my gut says he's heading to Adirondack with who ever doesn't make the cut tonight.

"always earned, never given"

If they are truly living by that then Sven has made the team.

I hope they're sitting him because he's made the team. But that's a pretty unrealistic hope with Hartley's comments about playing tonight. I feel like Sven isn't long for this organization, and that's ####ty. He could have scored more, but he looked like an NHL'er in the games I saw.

I disagree. IMHO, if they stand by that motto, Sven gets sent down to the AHL and Jooris starts the season in Calgary (JG starts here too). Jooris has played much better than Sven during the pre-season and is more deserving of a spot on the Flames to start the season.

In what way? Sven's camp has been okay at best. Jooris, Gaudreau and Granlund have surpassed him with consistently good to great performances. Sven has been Sven. Throwing his weight a bit more, but still bouncing between decent to invisible.

These fanboys tho...

Well, you have connected some dots that I didn't see. Or maybe they aren't trading him and just want to evaluate someone else.

In my opinion Sven is being sent down tomorrow, I think he's had a decent camp, however he's been out performed by both Jooris & Gaudreau.

He'd be playing tonight if he had a chance of making the team.

I can see him being sent down in favour of Gaudreau or Jooris but I don't think he is being traded. He has progressed quite a lot from last season and I think the Flames will bring him when injuries happen.

I'm just going to come out and say it. At the risk of getting lynch mobbed, I don't get all the Jooris love. He's been the beneficiary of some slick plays by Johnny and Bennett, and other than that I haven't seen much from him.

I don't mean to harp on Sven. But I don't think his camp has been good enough to warrant a spot on the opening night roster. He'll be called up soon enough, though. I just think he needs to prove a bit more. And should be able to prove himself in Addy if he is indeed ready.

It seemed to me that only one of Gaudreau or Baertschi was going to make it out of camp as they are both top 6 LW types and there is no question that Gaudreau has been more deserving.

Sven will make it soon enough

No lynch mob. I just think that even before the 2 goal game, he was bringing a lot of compete and energy to the right side. And with Jones hurt, he was one of four RWs healthy in camp. If it comes down to him or Setoguchi for a sport on the right side, Jooris has shown more in the preaseson.

I would rather have Seto in than Jones. If Jooris is going to bump someone.

My only rebuttle is this:

Quote:
Hartley said. “Fifty pounds of dynamite in his body. He has confidence. He tasted it last year. Now, he wants more. He wants more and I think that he’s buzzing. That’s what I like. He’s playing with passion. There’s sparks in his eyes. He’s not the biggest guy but he’s there. You notice him out there and that’s the kind of player that we’re looking for.”

Well, on the bright side I like that he's putting himself in the right place to receive those slick passes, and furthermore that he has the hands and presence of mind to bury them.

If we're talking Jooris vs Seto or Jones I can appreciate that. I too would rather have him in the lineup over those two bums.

But when we start talking Sven vs Jooris it gets questionable for me. To me he looks like one of those AHL tweeners we see every year who bounces up and down and never quite settles into a role - Jaffray, Street, B.Jones, Lundmark, etc.

Seto is competing for a RW spot. Sven is LW. Sven won't be beating out Setoguchi.

Jooris, however, can. Seeing as he's a right handed right winger.
