Smith said two veteran gang unit officers with the Newton Division were conducting an investigative stop after “observing Mr. Ford on the sidewalk at 65th Street.”
This case is eriely similar in details. Then at the end they add " Oh ya, and he was going for his gun"

Also the Citys office has been with out online communication since Sunday Night when anonymous took down there servers.
They are also in the process of confirming the Identity of the Police officer of the shooting. They made it clear they need to be 100% sure before releasing this info.
I know people can dislike them but they have done good work before. They found Amanda Todd's abuser, they found Video evidence of the Stubanville rape, they have taken Middle Eastern government sites down and only returned them when the country's let their people have access back to a open internet.
Taking down the police department's comms and trying to put a police officer in mortal danger are not altruistic acts. They are criminal acts and nothing more.
There is ZERO valid reason for the police officer to be publicly identified. Other than to let the "upstanding citizens" who have already threatened his life show up on his doorstep.
From the pictures you get the idea that pretty much the only basic requirement for a US police officer is that they know how to shoot.
EDIT:
Btw, notice how everyone is white. I guess you could argue that since Finland is 95% white this is not a big deal. But I'm pretty sure the Finnish police force isn't 50% female either. Still, not a huge complaint in my books.
However, in Missouri it kind of stands out that with 11% black population there's not a single black person in those pictures.
Unfortunately most officers in the US are poorly trained and aren't normally from the well-educated/highly intelligent parts of the community. At least in the experiences that I've had with police, they're generally kind of power hungry guys looking for reasons to waive their weapons around.
And while I understand the idea that Missouri's population leads to a police force that is primarily white--the community where Ferguson is located is predominantly black--but there are no black officers, and none of the officers that "serve" that community live anywhere near it.
Also as of this evening, two members of the press were arrested while sitting in a McDonalds. Detained, no questions answered, never told why they were being arrested, and then released without any charges. If you're arresting media members, you're first of all infringing on their 1st amendment rights, and secondly--you look really, really bad. If you've got nothing to hide, why would you need the media to be gone?
Wow, that police force is just going all in on the moron bet.
Yep, at the precise moment they should try and look as Andy Rooney/Mayberry as possible they roll out the full camo'd officers with the 30 cal on top of the armoured car, the police chief is obviously a moron if only for his PR skills

If the police in Ferguson are innocent and doing things by protocol--they have a really, really interesting way of showing it.
I've been following this all evening on Twitter. How freaking stupid are these cops. Still screaming at the crowd calling them animals!! I can't even fathom how this is happening.
There seems to be more stuff hitting the fan tonight, several livestreams are capturing it. Officers using tear gas yet again, on what appear to be peaceful protesters, people with livestreams being told to turn off cameras, etc.
Also there's the curiosity of the FAA placing a No Fly Zone over Ferguson.
Times like these make me want to move out of this country.

Despite my very low opinion of small US police agencies, I've generally taken the police's side on issues like this plenty of times in the past on CP, much to the disapproval of many posters, and might even have a reputation for it now. Generally I'd say we don't know the true story and should wait before we jump all over the cops.
On this one though, I've got nothing. After seeing the reaction the police have to these protests.... These guys have gone full ######.
I'm extremely lucky to be a middle class white woman. I can walk wherever I please without fear of the police attacking or arresting me without cause. I can't imagine what these families feel when fearing for their lives and their children's lives on a regular basis, especially from the people who are supposed to be protecting them.
