I agree that you can't have Byron and Gaudreau on the same team -- especially given Burke's mandate. However, Byron is a guy who can play this year (on the cheap to boot), and may have some value until such time Gaudreau cracks the lineup.
Hope he gets qualified.
EDIT: Crap. Oh well. Hope he catches on somewhere...

Bloody hell, so he hasn't been qualified after all. As I said original, disappointed, but not the end of the world. Best of luck to the bloke, should be a good pickup for someone.

I would have retained Byron over Hanowski though.

Byron was kind of like a secret weapon last season. If he is out, then it is probably just a size issue.

meh, he was a good player. fast, tenacious, and played bigger than he was. If the flames didn't have so many undersized wingers i'd be disappointed, but there just isn't room for him on the flames.
He'll find a place to play.

I thought Byron was deadline on the PK...constantly creating turnovers and SH chances...

Byron was one of the hardest-working guys on the roster last year, routinely out-muscling bigger/stronger players. Who cares if he's small, he played like he was 6'3.

Byron has indeed not been qualified. Kind of surprised/dissapointed. We do have quite a few smaller players though, and I don't see much room for him in the line-up. Good luck to Byron.

He should go to the Eastern conference, maybe a team like Boston.
His tenacity fits their mold, they could use his speed, and he would be a menace on the PK.

He's a really good penalty killer too. Perhaps Cammalleri is returning and they figure Hudler+Cammalleri+Baertschi+Gaudreau+Byron= too small

And that's why I'm glad that Ward's gone, I liked Cundari when he was up here on the Flames for a few games. Hope to see him up here again this season.

I'll miss that time he outmuscled Marincin in the corner to set up Monahan in OT.
I thought Hartley liked him. Told him to get a place in Calgary and everything.

Nooooooooooo Byron
I love that kid, and a team somewhere is gonna pick up a gem, but I guess there can only be one <5'9 player at the end of the day and he's not named Byron..
I think he did virtually everything he could to earn a place here. It's just too bad that his ceiling is where it is.

A little surprised about Byron as well, played well at the end of the year and brought a spark most nights. Small or not, he played hard and was noticeable. Kind of glad Galiardi is gone, seems like a great guy and had some nice wheels but otherwise didn't bring much of anything to the table. Hope he lands on his feet somewhere else.

Yeah the Byron one is weird to me, guessing it is Treliving that is not a fan.
Burke and Hartley had praise for him in the second half of last year.
Personally dissapointed in the move. Think he was a good small guy to keep around during the re-build as an example to our other small guys of how to play.
