Where are you getting the 'may not participate' from?

If he says he's gonna be in Calgary next weekend, it's not hard to put two and two together that it's for dev camp.

He can't based on the CBA since he played over 70 games last year.

I thought rookies were still eligible. Or is there a cutoff after a certain amount of games played? (can't remember). Sven was at camp last summer after playing a partial season.

But I don't sit around with the CBA open on my lap most the time, so forgive me...

I expect rosters/invites Wednesday-ish.

Berra wasn't required to attend last year due to age/pro experience but wanted to go. If Monahan feels like skating for a week, they'll let him.

I'm out of town 'til Monday - like MMF, I thought it'd start later. I'll be around for the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions, though. Interested to see which Europeans are there.

Okay, 70 game limit was surpassed..got it. Well I hope Gaudreau is enthusiastic enough to return one more time. The more we can see of our top talents playing together the better read we can get on chemistry etc. Seeing Johnny and Bennett paired up would be fascinating. Just as Gaudreau and Monahan were last camp.

A lot of the kids want to go each year due to the social aspect of the camps (and being in town for Stampede).

Well, if Johnny attends this year, his flight, meals, and amenities will all be comped.

Would be a bonus to have my 10-year old get his autograph.

Did I remember correctly that Wolf is coming to development camp? Or is he only attending training camp in the fall?

I believe he will be there this weekend along with the Russian defense man as the VISA issues have been resolved, IIRC

I would be stunned if he were not there.

As for Monahan, I sure hope he decides to attend. Everyone is different, but if it were me, I would relish the opportunity to participate even if I was not required to do so, especially since this is designed around my peer-group, and with all the excitement surrounding the team's prospects right now.

Yeah I can imagine it is fun and exciting for these guys, bonding with other players who, with hard work and a bit of luck, you might end up playing and roadtripping with for years to come.

Not entirely sure. Here is how it is framed in the CBA:

(a) In each off-season, a Club may hold one conditioning camp (a "Conditioning Camp") for the Players set forth in Section 15.10(b) below, provided that such Conditioning Camp be limited to the months of June and July only and may not last longer than seven (7) days, and provided further that such Club shall advise the NHL and NHLPA of the time, duration, and location of its Conditioning Camp at least two (2) weeks in advance, in accordance with Exhibit 3.
(b) Participation in Conditioning Camps will be limited to the following:
(i) Unsigned Draft Choices;
(ii) Any Player in the Entry Level System with less than 120 NHL Games played (but who did not play in excess of 70 NHL Games in the preceding Regular Season);
(iii) Draft-related Unrestricted Free Agents;
(iv) Players who were eligible for selection in the preceding Entry Draft but were undrafted; and
(v) Any Player who is not in the Entry Level System, who finished the preceding season disabled, and who submits a written request to the Club, with a copy to the NHL and the NHLPA, to participate in his Club's Conditioning Camp.
(c) Ice-time during Conditioning Camp will be limited to no more than three (3)
hours per day, per Player.
(d) No Player shall be required to participate in more than three (3) Conditioning Camps in total for any one (1) Club (but may opt to do so in his sole discretion).
The language stipulates a limitation on those players who are to participate, and Monahan falls outside of this based on his 70 games played this past season. It looks to me like he would likely not be able to attend, even if he wanted to. However, there is another note in 15.10(d) that seems to provide some latitude for players who opt to attend.

Perhaps a lawyer in the house can provide a more precise interpretation?

My interpretation would be that subclause (d) only relates to the three camps limitation, and would not prejudice the requirement in subclause (b)(ii).

I don't think Monahan can attend.

That would be my impression as well, simply from a plain reading of the text. Such a shame.

Also posted in Back Burner section of forum, but in case you don't peruse that area with some updates where some of the lads are going to camp (Coyotes & Red Wings with ton of invitees)

With City of Brotherly Love NHL draft in the books anyone hear if Flames have any development camp additions?

My invite wish list include:

Rihards Bukarts
Luke Philp
Reid Gardner (going to Wild camp)
Gavin Bayreuther
Vlad Tkachev
Tyson Baillie
Scott Savage, Boston College
Pius Suter
Joe Hicketts (going to Red Wings camp)
Ivan Nikolishin
Nick Wolff
Phil Baltisberger
Andrew Mangiapane (Coyotes camp)
Cody Donaghey (Leafs camp)
Colby Cave (going to Coyotes camp)

Don't seem to typically see Euros (correct me if I'm wrong), but invite:
Joni Tuulola
Sebastian Aho
Lawrence Pilut
Leon Bristedt

Updated Euro info:

Some info when it comes to Euros (playing overseas) and invitations to summer development camps:

For a European player, in the past there have been cases where there were visa issues complicating ability to attend the summer camp, even for a drafted player.

"The CBA (8.9) rules are different for signing a European prospect in the off-season if the player is younger and did not play in North America for the entire prior season. As we have seen in the past, with Nathan Walker/WSH and Tomas Hyka/PHI two high profile examples, some players attend but are ineligible to be signed. Does not prevent team from inviting or a player from attending, but it does change the situation for younger European prospects who did not play all of last season in North America."

For reference: CBA 8.9 Eligibility for Play in the League

No Player shall be eligible for play in the League unless he:
(a) had been claimed in the last Entry Draft, or was ineligible for claim under Section 8.4; or (b) had been eligible for claim in the last Entry Draft, but was unclaimed,
and:
(i)had played hockey in North America the prior season and was age 20 or older at the time of the last Entry Draft, and signed an SPC which was signed and registered with the League between the conclusion of the Entry Draft and commencement of the next NHL Season.
(ii) had played hockey in North America the prior season and was under age 20 at the time of the last Entry Draft, and signed an SPC which was signed and registered with the League between the conclusion of the Entry Draft and commencement of the Major Juniors season (except that if such Player had signed an NHL try-out form, which was signed and registered with the League during the aforesaid time period, then the deadline for signing and registering with the League an SPC with such try-out Club shall be the commencement of the NHL Season).
(iii) had played hockey outside of North America in the prior season and was age 22 or older at the time of the last Entry Draft and signed an SPC which was signed and registered with the League between the conclusion of the Entry Draft and the commencement of the next NHL Season.
(iv) The words "eligible for claim in the last Entry Draft" in subparagraph (b) above mean "eligible for claim in all rounds of the last Entry Draft." The words "the prior season" in subparagraph (i), (ii) and (iii) above mean "a full season prior to the last Entry Draft."

Add Goulet and Fuchs

Goulet is a two way centre that has a high ice q and wins faceoffs. Fuchs has a very high ice q and lightning speed. He's a sxoring winger. I think Nikolishin has to be there, if he's not I'll be upset. Nikolishin's dad was the perfect NHL 3rd liner. Ivan has a lot of offensve skill and elusivness. But he still hits and plays a two way game. Tuuola's a promising Dman same with Savage. Luke Philip is a good two way C. Very surprised Baille didn't get drafted.
