72 games into the season and Calgary has lost 20 games by 2 or more goals. They have lost 11 games by 2 goals and 9 games by 3 or more goals.

Of the 11 games lost by 2 goals, 6 of them had the opponent score an empty net goal within the last 2 minutes of play so these are effectivly 1 goal games as well.

Giordano was out for 18 games. During these 18 games, the Flames lost 4 games by more than 2 goals, and 4 games by 2 goals with an empty net goal. This accounts for 8 of the 20 games the Flames have lost by 2 or more goals.

After the Christmas break, the Flames had a horrid stretch of 12 games, where they went 2-9. It started with the lost to Edmonton on Dec 27 (2 goal lost with empty net) and ended on Jan 16 (3 goal lost to Winnipeg). During this stretch, Calgary had 4 - 3 or more goal losses and 4 - 2 goal losses, with only 1 of them having the opponent scoring and empty net goal. The Flames turned things around with the line brawl against Vancouver on Jan 18. These games account for 8 of the 20 games the Flames have lost by 2 or more goals.

The other 4 games the Flames have lost by 2 or more goals were the Oct 19 game against SJ (6-3), Dec 17 against Boston (2-0), Feb 4 against Montreal (2-0, empty net goal) and Feb 27 against LA (2-0).

The worst loss so far this season was the 6-0 loss to Pho on Jan 7.

The Flames have been very competative for most of the season. They had 2 bad stretches but have turned things around. Hopefully the work ethic will continue in future years and we can add or develop some more top line talent.

While I echo your longing for Ferland (he is definitely one of my favorite prospects as well, and has been since the draft), he doesn't have that jerk factor at all.

He seems more cool and collected out there. He does have a certain air about him, however. Kind of like a serial killer. If a member of the opposing team does something stupid, then he makes himself a target, and Ferland usually just deals with the soon-to-be corpse. He does play a physical game, especially in the corners - but I haven't seen a that jerk factor at all. He seems to handle himself out on the ice much like McGrattan really - except he normally pots a lot of goals and assists.

What I am hearing you say is: Clark Gillies

(which is precisely what I am hoping Ferland can become)
