I had to take my headphones out for a minute there. Did Burke just say that he might continue talking to Butler about an extension?
EDIT: Didn't press F5 enough times...

I like that Burke admits when he is dissapointed HE didn't get something done, versus spewing crap about how this happened exactly the way he wanted it to go.

Butler getting an extension would be fine. I don't understand why he gets #### on so much.

He almost said 'truculence' there. You could tell he wanted to but he opted for 'snarl.'

Until Bylsma panics in the playoff and puts Stemp up in the press box and then plays him on an odd 4th line roll when they're down 4-0 in a do-or-die matchup against the Bruins (or any other team).

Yeah we probably need Butler back. We have maybe 1 prospect with a legitimate shot at making the team next year in Wotherspoon. Not enough certainty with what`s coming through the system to let him go.

If he'd knock off the brain cramps, Butler would be fine. He just makes too many glaring mistakes.

Summary (sorry just writing everything, ignore crap):
- Recap of trades, both picks are this year.
- Thanks players for their contribution to the organization and best wishes.
- Reason Cammy wasn't traded:
- Moulson and Vanek were a logjam that kept teams out of bidding for Cammy.
- Prices dropped because of these other guys and they tried to adjust their price accordingly.
- Kesler possible trade caused issues.
- Cap issues with other teams, 2 teams asked if they would retain salary if necessary and they said they would.
- They thought up until an hour before the deadline (had a 3-way deal with someone to do that) they would be able to take cap space to acquire a pick.
- Doesn't want to say they feel like they came out on top in trades, that sort of thing is only known in the future.
- Cammy has been really professional with the whole process and they have already started contract talks again since the deadline ends.
- Not upset he didn't move Mike, would rather take the chance to keep him as opposed to giving him away on a terrible deal.
- Berra was not being shopped, COL came asking for him and he says he would not have made the trade for anything less than 2nd.
- Thinks championship teams are built largely through the draft, although he may have preferred nhl-ready players, he's very happy with the picks.
- No surprise, was not in on Vanek or Moulson, reiterates that the prices fell a lot between yesterday and today.
- A few teams called about Butler, contract talks will continue with him this season to see if it's possible to work something out.
- Claims Stempniak could be 10 pounds heavier, (haha) but otherwise thinks he's great in every aspect.
- Brings up Stajan and that he didn't WANT to trade him out of TOR, it was a move to make the leafs better.
- He believes that we've got players in the AHL will play NHL.
- Thinks we still need big bodies who can snarl in the system.
- Not worries about criticism from fans about Mike, comfortable with his decision to keep him, reiterates that the offers he had sucked.
- Mentions that it's important to maintain a philosophy when it comes to trade of not being weak and just giving players away, thinks teams will remember next year.
- Doesn't know what will happen in goal when Ramo gets back, up to Hartley.

Burke basically just said what Tinordi said in the other thread, building organizational reputation in trades is worth something in future trades, let's others know you simply bend over cause that's whats available.

like the reputation comment. The Flames need to repair the reputation and I think Burke adds to that component.

Plan is to have Ramo and Ortio playing for the Flames, unless Ramo is getting lots of starts in which case Ortio would play in Abby so he's not just sitting on the bench
