Now they can't be allowed to get Ekblad.

This kid is going to get so badly exposed in Oilerville, I feel sorry for this kid.

Not a bad price for Fasth, and I would rather have him than Bryz.
Now we shall see over the rest of this season and next season just how much of the Oilers' problem has been goaltending.
Personally, I don't think either of these goalies are any better than Dubnyk, but time will tell. One thing is certain, the Oilers had to do something between the pipes, and now they have.
Personally, I think they will both be looking very average by November (and by average, I mean below average).

True.
But doesn't have to some of the credit there have to be cancelled out by the worst defensive team in the league trading a decent defensive defenseman? Smid was the exact type of player they needed to keep and instead they dealt him.

Didn't you know that Ekblad can play all 6 defense positions?

And I am fine with that! Smid has been playing really well with us. A really good 5-6 pairing defenseman. I would prefer him and Butler on the 5-6, our problem is we need a shut down defenseman in the top 4.
As for Edmonton, they are making some decent moves lately. Still not worried, their defense is really, really bad.

First penner now Fasth. Aren't the ducks supposed to be buyers? I wonder what the fans are thinking. Maybe they will flip the picks for someone they have been targeting.

No, a third is a third. Not a low second. I hate when people say that.

It's fun to make fun of the Oilers, but as it stands, status quo is not something they should be considering for their team and I think they made two good movies in Scrivens and Fasth. Also, getting something back for Bryzgalov is pretty much amazing.

good day for the oilers.
Fasth + Scrivens goaltending tandem > any combination of dubnyk, bryzgalov, labarbera
all it cost was what, a 2nd/3rd/5th round pick to upgrade their goaltending?

When they continue to get lit up on a regular basis are they still going to blame the goalies or do they start thinking maybe, just maybe the defense could use some sprucing up?

This sucks for Fasth's career. I thought he was in his early 20s as I knew he was a rookie last season. So he's 31, has 30 games under his entire NHL career. He is now going to the worst defensive team of the last decade. His numbers will probably take a huge hit, and combined with the fact he's a free agent after next season. I can't imagine many teams will line up for a 33 year old coming off a (likely) terrible season if he doesn't play lights out. I feel bad for him. He was a real feel-good story last season.
