I would imagine that MacT has been trying to get an improvement on defense for a while now (ignoring the Smid trade). The fact that the best he can come up with is a defenseman that has been scratched for half the season on the 6th worst defensive team in the league makes me very happy.
It is a nothing for nothing trade. But these moves seem to indicate that it will be difficult for MacT to improve via trades. That leaves overpaying RFAs and UFAs and building through the draft. Neither of which Edmonton excels at.

^^ except worse than Smid at pretty much everything. Granted, he's cheaper than Smid too, but considering the special-ness of the Coilers, money shouldn't be an issue....
The account is a parody. It's making fun of the grease for trading Smid.

I know, was just piling on MacT's brilliance. Get rid of a decent 3-4 guy to free up cap space to sign a goalie that no one else wants and is, at best, an ok to slightly above average goalie... then dump your other goalies to acquire yet a different backup goalie (when most reasonable people know goaltending wasn't anywhere near your biggest issue in the first place)... then trade a prospect for the worst defenseman on the 6th worst defensive team in the league.
MacT went full Oiler trying to fix a semi existent goaltending issue.
Omg I need to dump cap! Who do I get rid of??
(Gets rid of one of their more solid reliable defencemen)
Wouldn't it be hilarious if they were in an even worse cap situation and had to retain some of Smid's salary?
I'd say it's bigger than just this year though. Almost every move seems to have next year in mind. All contracts signed expire this year and all trades cleared future room save for Hendricks.
Some big plans this summer once salary cap constraints lift I think

They can give Vanek another 7 year contract offer!!!
Please please please three talented guys without any compete level whatsoever.
I would love to see 3 7 year 8 million dollar offers per
Ha? Moulson, Vanek and Ryan have no compete? That is absurd. The only guy you could maybe argue lacks compete is Ryan. Moulson and Vanek are very competitive guys.

Weird move, Fraser is a UFA and has a 1.2 million dollar cap hit. So they traded a prospect and a nothing player for a really bad defensemen and added to their Free agent woes.
I'm beginning to think that Mac-T got his MBA from DeVry
This is a move that makes little to no sense, and I would class it as busywork
this is also 2 trades in a row where the Oilers gave up picks or prospects for a pending UFA. It's almost like he thinks they are a buyer.

Do you watch Eastern conference games or do you just catch highlights later on?
Moulson and Vanek are very good complementary players, neither are drivers that can create offense in a vacuum.
Vanek has a great shot and he'll score goals but he's streaky and doesn't play a complete game. Moulson has come a long way but he's benefited from good linemates and again he's a finisher not a guy who creates offensive chances. To mention nothing about his game on the other side of the red line.
There's a reason these guys make it to free agency in the first place - teams deem them expendable and for good reason.

Reminds me of this episode of oil change where tambo signs Belanger. His strut down the hallway is amazing "Okay, you got your centreman!" lol
13:42 below, or click here:
Better yet was the "You know why he signed for 3 years? He can't wait for what's coming years 2 and 3. He's sees what we're doing and wants to be a part of it"
"One of the reasons he picked us because he sees what's happening, not next year but in year 2 and 3"
LOL did Lowe see 4 goals in 104 games as an Oiler and a buyout? That was seriously epic. "You got your ceneterman!" followed by a huge cheer. Wow you would have thought they had just signed Stamkos.
