Weird move, Fraser is a UFA and has a 1.2 million dollar cap hit. So they traded a prospect and a nothing player for a really bad defensemen and added to their Free agent woes.
I'm beginning to think that Mac-T got his MBA from DeVry
This is a move that makes little to no sense, and I would class it as busywork

They keep on adding UFAs. Either they think they are going for a playoff push or after playing there for a few months, these guys will have a change of heart and love the city and sign there long-term.
Have they found his girlfriend/wife yet and called her a lazy gold-digger?

Fraser played parts of two seasons for Dallas Eakins with the Marlies. Will get a chance as a 3rd pairing guy 10-14 mins per game

I actually kind of like Hartikainen a little. Not a lot but Rights to Hartikainen for what I consider to be a negative value asset... clear win for T.O. I wonder if Burke could have offered up O'Brien at half price and gotten that return.

Hartikainen was pretty hyped up by the Oilers fan base for a while there, but he had seriously dropped down their depth chart. He's probably never going to pull on Leaf or Marlie's silks.
This is a trade that more benefits Toronto then Edmonton in the long term. In the short term, maybe Fraser can come in and play a quality 14 minutes a . . .
Well something for nothing is always a good thing, but here it's really nothing for nothing. 5/6 D man who is a UFA? I don't see the value. Especially since half the Oilers D corp is 5/6 guys

Meh. Whenever we faced the Oiler with him in the line-up he always seemed to have some of the "I actually give a damn" that the rest of his team lacked. I never bought the Oiler fan hype but he looked like a guy that could grind out a living in the league. Not a top 6 guy (not enough natural talent) but I thought he had the stuff to play in a teams bottom six.

For a guy that came in and announced that he was ready to make bold moves he sure has made a lot of very small moves to go with his "0.0" bold moves.
I dunno about that. Standing in the train tracks and just eating another lottery season without doing anything to address it is pretty bold in its own way.
I think I'm alone here, but I actually kind of think the oilers didn't make a terrible move.
The two guys they moved out were very fringe players and I doubt they ever get much/if any NHL time. Maybe Hartikainen develops into a solid 2-way kind of guy and comes in, but it's still better for the oilers to add some older more experienced guys for the moment.
The guy they get back fits their needs and has decent NHL experience (~150+ games). I'm not saying he's an incredible defenceman but they got a guy who can and likely will play for them, giving up assets they had all but given up on and it improves their team. Please don't come back with hyperbole but their team is better than it was before the trade.

Yeah.. its not bad for the Oilers but really doesn't move the needle in any direction. Just more fiddling around to look busy.
