Flames don't have the talent at this point to play a complete game. They can either score, or they can play sound defensively. They can't do both. I think that they are trying too hard to play sound defence. Burke did make some comments about the team giving up too many leads at the end of the game, so perhaps they are trying to compensate too much?

I hate to say it, but Flames should be trying to play some river hockey again. Get those vets some goals to make them more trade-able. I don't know... you don't want bad habits developing either, so it is good developmentally to try and be better defensively...

Something changed on this team. Maybe it is just a confidence issue. Maybe over-compensating on defence. Maybe just the ebb and flow of the season. Lots of maybes. What is not a maybe, is that this team is almost a chore to watch now.

I realize that, but these 3 shutout have all come at home. It's unbelievable. You can't do that to the fans.

The team sucks, but I do know that Backlund has a better chance to score a goal than Westgarth.

What you don't seem to be taking into account is what teams will be selling at the deadline and what teams will be playing the crap out of their rookies post-trade deadline. We will be selling off one of our more dangerous wingers (Cammy), one of our top few centres (Stajan) and perhaps much more. EDM doesn't have as much to dump (Hemsky?, N. Schultz?, Belov? Potter?) and they aren't trying to tank this year so its unlikely they dump anybody outside of Hemsky. They desperately, desperately need to show improvement to their fans, to show that the team is on the way up. It's almost more likely that they try to improve their team immediately at the deadline.

It would be pretty shocking the Oilers outsucked us the rest of the year and especially post-trade deadline. The Islanders have way more offensive talent than we do.

I'd have to say BUF and CGY are the favourites to finish bottom two although maybe FLA will be in that conversation. CGY will be playing the crap out of their young guys post-trade deadline like last year I would think.

Plus we could still win the lottery even if we finished 3-5th.

I think he should be putting our soon to UFAs out there as much as possible to hopefully increase their value. Then play your kids as much as possible on the second and third lines.

Cammalleri-Stajan-Stempniak
Byron-Monahan-Hudler
Glencross-Backlund-Jones
Galiardi-Bouma-McGrattan

If those guys are hurt, pull someone from the minors that can play the role in question. Don't #### with the whole lineup. Keep the free agents scoring and push that value up! Next year, rinse and repeat with the guys about to become free agents. They should be able to coup an extra first rounder or two each year if they manage their vets properly and pump their stats.

Yup still sad
Can't get pucks to the net = no goals
I checked the math and it seems to add up... 1 goal in what the last 12 periods

Yeah, I guess I'm just at the shoulder shrugging phase. We all know Hartley isn't long for this team, let him throw out anyone for all I care, especially when nobody is producing.

The Flames playing the crap out of their rookies last year cost us Nathan Mackinnon.

That's a pretty big assumption.

http://www.taylorshold.com/anatomy-of-the-sedin-trade/

In 1999 Burke traded up from #4 to #1 using only two 3rd rounders. Makes your torpedo-ing the rebuild statement look like massive hyperbole.

In addition he managed to acquire that #4 overall pick for McCabe and a future 1st rounder. Great trade.

I don't think Burke will be looking to trade our 2015 pick obviously but he has shown the ability to both acquire a top 4 pick for a decent price, and move up from #4 to #1 for very little.

I'm not sure why anybody would be skeptical of Burke's ability to move up for a decent price based on his history.

That's a questionable assumption. Us calling up rookies didn't cause Jimmy Howard to hand Steve Begin two gift goals. Who knows how we would have played keeping our best defenseman and one of our best wingers. To suggest we would've played worse with them seems questionable.

If you really wanna blame anyone for costing us the 1 pick, it probably would be Kiprusoff and his improved play late last season.

We really couldn't have done much more to tank except bench Kiprusoff the rest of the year. We just weren't as bad as some of those teams last season.

This year we are legitimately that bad.

We still got Monahan who looks like a solid pick. The problem is the last four games the Flames have been beyond sloppy. I don't know if its related to the Russell injury but its my only explanation as he was injured Dec.21

I don't have PVR at the moment, but it made me wish the Flames were penalized the whole game! Haha!

Low cut Flames tshirt. I don't know if I've ever enjoyed being short handed so much. Since it's a losing season, I wouldn't have minded a steady stream to the box at all!

Russell's puck moving ability really helped our offense. He's great at rushing the puck, great at walking the blue line in the offensive zone. When either him, Giordano or Brodie are out we take a massive hit both defensively and offensively.

I hope we re-sign him.
