Can't really tell in the video or gif what the principle point of contact was or if it was McGrattan's elbow, shoulder, hands/butt end of stick that struck Alberts. Looks sort of like the hit started on the mid section and bounced up into the head area. Tough to say though. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a game or two suspension when all is said and done.

When someone gets knocked out, they drop. Simple as that, knees buckle, eyes roll and down you go. Albert's body language IMO does not match that. Was he hurt? Sure, but I think he sold the "knock out" to garner a harsher penalty which he achieved.
I don't doubt Alberts was winded. The principal point of contact from McGrattan was his left shoulder. If the right hand came around, it does not appear to be with significant force. Bad call by the zebras.
Include the miss on a 4 min high sticking against Stajan and there is nearly a half period the Flames play in a worse position than they deserve. Tough deal for a team playing close games.
Not that this team is good enough, but the last two games have had very unsatisfactory reffing.

I didn't see a hit to the head, I did see a arm to the back shoulder area, I think that instead of a suspension the NHL should rescind the game misconduct and reprimand the offciating crew for a terrible call.
If anything albert's hurt himself in trying to sell it by throwing himself into the boards.
It was a completely terrible call, it wasn't elbowing there wasn't a head shot. If anything it could be argued that its too minutes for charging.
It would be a shame if Ern got suspended later due to having a previous game misconduct.

The reason he didn't come back to the game was probably that he hurt his shoulder doing the snow angel. Or maybe he hurt his knees when he cushioned his landing after being "knocked out".

Hate to say it, but it looks suspension worthy to me. It was a high hit and it looks like McGrattan's hands went up and contacted Alberts' face which caused Alberts' face to hit the glass. I'm guessing a game or two max.
I don't see any suspension.
No elbow, as arms are down.
No charge, as he doesn't skate into it.
All he does is stand up for the hit.
Is that now a penalty?
I don't understand how this could knock out even a 12 year old girl.
McGrattan is already passed Alberts in this picture. What kind of momentum would his hands have at that point?
Did he swing around him and throw Alberts into the boards? A neck injury, possibly, but I don't see how there's enough force to knock a hockey player out.

So there we go. The principal point of contact is McGrattan's left shoulder, right arm is secondary at best and the impact of the right arm is secondary. The right glove appears to be in Alberts face being brought back, not even like he intended to strike with his right.
Kinda like when that stick waved in front of Luongo's mask except in this case there was incidental contact.
I am still amazed at the lack of professionalism of the Smith/Lawton panel and their ridiculous assessment of the situation. I tell you, if I was that lousy at my job I expect that I wouldn't have one.

I know this is the Calgary board and all but I don't believe I have ever seen such blind homerism in my life than I have in this thread. It was all - his hands weren't high - he didn't make contact with his head and now it is - this couldn't have had much force behind it - it wouldn't hurt a 12-year-old girl. I would like to see how some of these posters would react to having a person smash them in the face. He is past (note the spelling) Alberts because he swung around after knocking the guy in the face and his arms are still high - look at the video.
