That might be the stupidest thing I've heard about the Flames situation this year. He's not even 30 yet and is the best all around defender on a team with little to no defense. No prospect defenseman is ready for prime time yet. Was there any analysis to this comment whatsoever?
And who the heck is Ryan Lambert anyway?

First off, if Moore can be traded for a 2nd rounder and Regehr can be traded for 2 then Stempniak and Stajan should each be able to get one in return (if not more). 2nd round picks for top 9 forwards is really not a huge payment.
Second, the Flames do not *need* an extra 1st rounder. As long as we keep ours and it lands in the top 3 we will be laughing. If we end up with another one on top of that it would really just be a bonus for the rebuild.
Nice to have, not required to have.

The only thing surprising about Gio being named Captain, was that they did not make him wear the new 3rd uniform when accepting the honour.

You could be right. Cammi could have just been saying the right things because that is what a professional should say. However, if getting married gets him into the mindset of nesting, then I wouldn't be surprised if he just decides to stay in Calgary (likely for more money than he could get signing with a contender). He could try to sign a 5 year deal with a NMC and hope that in 3 years he is on a contending team that he helped to build.

^ it is a really stupid comment, but I think Lambert is going for the media-response angle here - get conversation going.

One of the bloggers for Flames Nation. I can't tell if this is tongue-in-cheek or not, but I'm hoping it is.

Just because, as outsiders looking in, we believe the Flames will suck, that a guy like Cammalleri believes the same. His mindset going into the season should be an expectation of winning. All the players on the team should feel the same way. If they don't, trade them to the Oilers where that kind of thing is ingrained into the culture.

He is the worst writer on FN by a long mile. Truly a monumental idiot.
The only article he has written that is not 100% idiotic just happened a couple of days ago.
His hatred of Feaster and Flames management has no boundaries.

Had an idea!

Not sure why people think we need to trade away every single player that can garner a draft pick just because we're rebuilding.

Any writer that says; "shoulda", instead of; "should have", has no business being a writer.

+1, surprised as well. Maybe it's so hideous that they're redesigning it.

It is amazing how many"experts" think this way. Burke was right when people asked if he would rebuild the same way Pittsburgh did.

|
Yep. We have 1 first line NHL forward, and on a contender I'm pretty sure he's on the 2nd line.
I'm predicting Brodie becomes a true top pairing D this year, but he remains unproven. The rest of the D is made up of depth players.
The goaltending is a mystery.
27th at BEST seems reasonable to me. But this year really isn't about the standings, it's about players seizing opportunities and developing as NHL players. And we get a shiny Ekblad/Reinhart at the end.

Not saying he's a bad player, just mostly average. Nothing about him really stands out for me.

Yes. Because Horcoff was that type of player.

Ehh, I think this team will surprise in that we aren't as bad as teams like Florida.
I think we continue the trend of never picking top 5. We'll finish at 5, and the team at 6 will win the lottery.

There are going to be alot of teams underestimating the flames this year and they may make the flames surprise a few team at least at the start of the year. Look what happened with Columbus and Montreal this year or Ottawa last year.

One common theme among all those teams you mentioned as examples are that they had pretty solid goaltending. Carey Price has his weak games but he can also steal a few. Bobrovsky and Anderson were lights out and when Anderson was out the backups in Ottawa stepped up big time. I don't think Berra, Ramo or MacDonald are going to be an Anderson or Bobrovsky this year. I'm ready to be pleasantly surprised, though.
