Nice! I sincerely hope his next contract costs us way more than this one. I really like the progress he made last season. One of the few players on our team that was never frustrating to watch.

I really hope he can find his game and develop into a solid 2nd line centre.
Every time I go back and look at the Flames draft history it's always so depressing... at least Backlund developing into a solid NHLer would salvage 2007 draft year.

Good deal. I'm surprised he didn't take another 1 year deal.
He showed some great skill when he was healthy last season, I just pray he can have some better luck next season. I think he can be a 50 point player if he stays healthy.

Backs wanted term on his last contract as well - Flames didn't offer it to him.

It was really cool to see Backlund start to assert himself last year. If he keeps that up he could become a force.
Great signing. Hopefully in two years he'll have earned a big pay raise.

Good signing. Let's see if Backlund can show that he's the Flames #1 center or at least #2 center. Just hope injury stops and he can prove that he's worth the Flames first round pick from the Sutter era.

The comments on the Flames Facebook-page about Backlund and this contract are headache-inducing.

Pretty much said he was really excited that the Flames believed in him enough to give him a two year deal. Pumped that the team is going really young. Was a bit surprised at Feaster press release comments about relying heavily on Backlund next season and is relishing the chance at an important role and leadership role on the team.

I hear that his uncle has an intimate relationship with the Flames. Just sayin.

Great term and dollars. Will be a steal of a deal, providing he stays healthy.

Love everything about the deal, would have preferred a longer term as I think he has a nice home here but with any luck he'll be resigning in 2 years for much more money.

Awesome signing! Surprised he agreed to only $1.5 but probably a testament to his desire to be a factoring player for the Calgary Flames. Gives him 2 years to prove he's worth the big bucks and I really hope he does.
Good luck Backs!

Now that Tanguay is gone I need a new jersey. If Backlund show promise at the beginning of the year he's my choice. He loves Calgary, has a great attitude, plays hard and will hopefully be a very important piece of the team going forward.

People keep talking about Giordano as a guy who would wear the next captain C but Backlund would be a good candidate too.

Loved how he came out flying at the beginning of last season.
