Over/under on the highest amount of games any one goaltender plays next year? 40? 45?
I can't see anyone getting over 50, unless one of Ramo or Berra light it up, or both suck so badly that Mac is our only option...

Don't forget about Gillies. He's still a few years away but he's the one I think has the most legit chance at being a stud NHL goaltender.

If Feaster said that MacDonald can be sent to the minors and not be subject to waivers, and that he "didn't qualify" Irving. I am seriously concerned of his understanding of how things work.

Sure, you could say that about any team in the league. Throw in their top two goaltending prospects, with less than 30 games NHL experience between them - see what happens. It may turn out well. Probably not, though. It's the most important position in the game. Handing the job to a couple rookies is pretty much conceding a lottery pick next season. And again - I'm okay with that. I just don't think management is.

If you read the thread you would have seen that what Feaster actually said was that if MacDonald gets sent to the minors his salary doesn't count against the cap.
I think that the qualified bit was paraphrased.

I look at it more like actually giving the players in our system a chance to show what they can do rather than going out and signing "experience". There are plenty of examples of goalies coming from no where to be serviceable starters or better. Our last superstar goalie for example.
And I know there are a lot of examples of goalies coming in and crapping the bed too, it just seems like after years and years of gifting roster spots to signed veterans rather than letting our own players develop, people still want to see this happen. Makes no sense. Ramo is prime age for a "rookie" goaltender. I want to see how he does.

Highly unlikely of CP but for the love of all things great can we not throw either Ramo or Barra under the bus because 'they're not as good as kipper' after 1 game.
Remember both of these are coming from larger ice surfaces and will take a bit of time to get used to the smaller NA ice size.

I'm excited for when CP forgets that Kipper hasn't been Kipper for years now, and then they start to get upset about Ramo and Berra comparing them to Kipper of 06 and thinking if Kipper was back this year that would be the goalie we'd be getting.

In all seriousness, I'm very interested to see how Berra and Ramo fare in the NHL. They're both 26 which is roughly when goalies start to show what they're capable of. Shrewd business by Feaster to get both of these guys.
I'd like us to get a stud D-man to protect them a bit better than our D-corps protected our goalies last year.

There's something to be said about having the prospects actually earn their spots rather then needing a franchise to "give" them the spots.
Must be a generation thing, rather then earning your way the next generation just expects it to be given to them. It's not like those prospects that we didn't give a spot to and develop then went on and developed elsewhere... just maybe they weren't good enough and that serviceable veteran signing was the better NHL upside in the end (as little as it was).

Who said anything about not earning it? Wouldn't signing an experienced goalie fly in the face of that? Ramo Berra macdonald and brossoit all competing for 2 spots seems like someone will have to earn it.
