I was going to start this thread when I first heard this (probably 3 to 4 weeks ago) from an insider (all im gonna say) that Vancouver is the front runner.

Insider? Lol Iginla hasn't even began to think of next year. Your insider is full of it.

I'm sorry, always liked Iginla, but if he signs in Vancouver or Edmonton I won't be a fan of his anymore. Right or wrong, as a die hard Flames fan AND die hard Iginla fan over the years, I'd consider a slap in the face for him to sign with one of our two biggest and most hated rivals.

Seriously. Back at you. How do you know what he is or is not thinking now?
What we know is he spends lots of time in BC - Vancouver seems logical- not just logistics but also a team trying to win in the short term.
I hope the Pens fall short this year - and he goes to a Canadian team and wins the cup there. Frankly, I don't care which Canadian team it is.

Because it is stupid to think Iginla, during a cup run or a playoff run would even begin to think of next year with another team and already have a "front runner".
Absolutely ridiculous and a flat out lie.

The guy does have a family and young kids. Eventually you do have to plan in advance for the sake of your kids ... even if you are in the NHL.

The Canucks are interested. I hope iginla isn't. Or in a year he will be talking about not wanting to be a part of a rebuild in Vancouver.

So he made Vancouver the front runner even though he's already said in pubic (not to an insider) that he'd like to re-sign in Pittsburgh.

Can someone tell me how the Canucks are going to fit Iggy on to the team even with a cap of say 4M?

Exactly, Van is already in cap trouble. Unless they can trade Luongo without taking any salary back (or do a couple big buck buyouts) they are going to be screwed. Adding Iggy at 4Mish would negate any buyout savings. Not to mention their pathetic playoff performance, if Iggy wants to win why would he go there?

Iginla is already dead to me. The moment he arrived in Pittsburgh and said they were the model franchise is the moment he stopped being a Calgary Flame and became the enemy. Screw Iginla. A guy that is a Flame for life and a Calgarian doesn't blow smoke up the skirt of his new team so quickly and doesn't dump his house within days of being traded. ###### bag move. Doesn't deserve the admiration of a Flames fans.

It's not even just the model franchise part. The reason Calgary is in a disastrous state is because we continued to cater to the guy and chase a dragon's tail to make him happy.
Sorry we didn't win the Crosby lottery Jarome! We're awful.

Nice to see that someone else recognizes that the Flames are what they are is because they catered to Iginla rather than building a real team. Iginla was a cog, not a main gear. Build a team around a number of players, not just one.

I think TB comparisons would be a stretch. Crosby, Malkin, Letang is a much better core. Add in guys like Neal and Kunitz who are much better than what TB had. Secondary guys are in place with Sutter, Cooke, Niskanen, Orpik. Then decent young guys like Bennett, Maata, Pouliot and Harrington. And most important a smart GM not a total moron making decisions.

Why? Other than the ridiculous claims that Iginla is somehow "dead to fans" or a "###### bag", both of which are completely irrelevant arguments, the thrust of their point is completely accurate.
Calgary catered to Iginla for about 2-3 years too long. Debatable? Maybe, but I agree with them. Calgary screwed themselves by being loyal in a competitive business and it didn't serve them well by doing so.
It isn't the end of the world, and hopefully the Flames turn it around in 2-3 years time, but the state of the franchise today was unnecessary.

Stop kidding yourself, teams don't just go into full rebuild mode as a choice. They go there when they hit the bottom, which is what happened this year. blaming it on Iginla is ridiculous and quite frankly shows little knowledge of how professional sports work.

Lol
D-bag move for saying the truth about Pittsburgh and not insulting the Flames in any way?
And Iginlas fault for management being idiots?
I guess people will make up anything to fit their garbage ideas.

I'm not blaming Iginla, but what I said isn't wrong. Building around Iginla prevented management and ownership from taking an honest audit of the state of this franchise. When I hear the Pens being a model franchise I think it's pathetic. They tanked and lucked into one generational player and another elite player.
