Offseason moves Crystal Ball:
Tanguay is shopped at the draft. Get's traded for a 2nd rounder. Butler's rights are shopped, no takers and non-tendered, Smith is shopped at the draft no takers and gets bought out.
Kiprussoff retires.
Ramo signs and comes over.
At 6 we take Lindholm, at 23 we take Compher, & at 29 we take Zachary Fucale (CP explodes).
Cervenka walks, Flames Sign Horton for $$$, term and full NMC (CP explodes), Flames sign Gonchar giving him $$$ but no term nor NTC (CP explodes), Flames extend Cammaleri at a reduced rate (CP explodes).
Lindholm makes the team out of camp, as do Cundari, Bouma, Horak & Breen.
Giordano is named captain
Cammalleri Backlund Horton
Glenncross Stajan Stempniak
Baertschi Lindholm Hudler
Bouma Horak Jackman
McGrattan
Giordano Wideman
Brodie Gonchar
Sarich Cundari
Breen

I really like this line up. Not convinced that they are not a playoff team either.
We see vet ladden high talent teams fail, and young less talented teams with better attitudes make the post season every year.

True enough, a line up like that could surprise if they get solid goaltending, and the young guys continue to grow.
Two forwards there with a legitimate shot at the Calder with Sven and Valeri, and none of the "vets" are over the hill....all right around 30 or so.

Miniac is right.
A healthy Glencross, with the ice time he will have now (esp if Tang and Cami are gone) is 30 goals for sure (25, 26 in an injury year, and on pace for 20-25 this year which was a stinker). For the contract he has you would be dumb to trade him for Nino.
Throwing a pick in is the only thing that could make that trade even dumber.
And his trade value will obviously be higher at the deadline when teams against the cap need scoring help. His contract/production would fetch you more, and he would be more willing to waive to compete for a cup.

After Iggy and JayBow were traded I watched a lot more Flames hockey.
I pretty much skipped the entire season at the Dome, other people at work wanted the tickets more than me.
I'll fight for tickets next year though, even if they finish last I prefer to watch the next gen.

^^^ Ugly. I wouldn't make any of those deals. I wouldn't waste a contract on Aliu and Byron. I wouldn't count on Ference coming anywhere near Calgary again. If the goal with that lineup is to guarantee us a shot at Reinhart and McDavid you have certainly done that. If there were a GM that tried to engineer that mess I'd demand his head. I don't see any structure or identity with that team.

Aliu and Byron - Difference of opinion
Ference- New management, he is from around here and knows there are tons of fans who appreciate him (I for am one of them). I know he might be frustrated but he did acknowledge Calgary after the cup win and I think he wouldnt mind playing here (its been like 6+ years)
I am not sure how you don't think that line-up is not in the right direction. You have a mix of young players and older veterans that have actually won before (Hudler, Ference, Horton, Sarich) while other guys are used to winning in the past (Hudler, MacDonald)
As for the identity of the team, we get bigger with the acquisition of Horton and Myers.
Line 1: Baertschi and Backlund have shown chemistry and adding Horton (a big body) will really help them both take the next step next season.
Line 2: Hudler and Cervenka have shown chemistry before and Lindholm imo is ready to play in the NHL. This is our skill line.
Line 3: The hardworking line that has three players who are very good third line players (but imo not second line) and I think they provide the veteran presence for the rest of the team.
Line 4: Bouma and Reinhart are there for both skill and to play gritty while McGrattan is there to kick some ass if any one of the two are touched (kind of like Simon with Lombardi and Kobasew)
DF 1: Ference is a very solid d-man who has had a long NHL career and has won a cup. I think he can be a great mentor for Brodie and help him out (way better than putting him with Cundari)
DF 2: Myers is a physical presence while Shattenkirk is a puck-moving dman. Imo this is an upgrade from Giordano-Wideman, although I do understand people may think otherwise.
DF 3: Sarich can help Cundari become the aggressive beast he is capable of becoming and really become a mentor for him.
Ramo imo should be the starter with Macdonald as the veteran presence.
I am not sure if this helps because it is just my view and what I want, however, imo the team is more balanced. There is more skill, more physicality and the team is tougher to play against with a lot of speed.

We should see if Carolina would bite on Johnny or Johnny+ for that 5th. Maybe the American hype would make them bite haha.

I wouldn't be surprised if the devils traded their first for Johnny. I am a bit worried about him bailing on us but that's still 2 years away

Both have major risks, but I would probably double dip centers or take our guy at 5 and then trade down with our 6th to around 8/9/10 and take a D.

Kipper stays and Joey Mac stays as a backup. Brossoit and Berra in the AHL, Ortio in Utah and Ramo stays in KHL for another season. Leland Irving is done with the Flames.
Flames will probably buy out Cory Sarich. They will also say goodbye to Babchuk. Mark Giordano, TJ Brodie, Dennis Wideman, Mark Cundari, Smith, Butler and one of the AHL D will be the 7th D.
I think Cammy, Horak, Tangs
Glencross, Stajan, Reinhart
Hudler, Backlund and Baertschi
Jackman-Begin(??? maybe)-McGratton/Bouma
I got the feeling the Flames will let Cervenka walk. I am not even sure Hartley likes him as he never really tried him on his natural position(centre) and he was a healthy scratch for most of the games. Hanowski was okay but I am not sure he is ready for the NHL. He looks a bit lost at times. Need a good seasoning in the AHL and might be a late callup. Akim Aliu was very inconsistent in games he played. Not sure he unseated Jackman or Bouma yet. Only reason I will see him in the NHL early in the season is if he plays exceptional in the pre-season or Flames release or trade Jackman or Bouma. Paul Byron still hasn't shown he belongs in the NHL. He was pretty good early then he got injured and did not recover from it.
With the Flames 6th pick overall, whoever they drafted might play a few games early in the season but he will be send back to junior right away.

LW: Sign Raymond. Tanguay gets bought out or traded before the draft. Leaving Sven, Raymond and Glencross to work the top nine on rotation.
RW: Feeling Cammalleri gets traded as well making room for a guy like Clarckson, Horton or Stalberg to play on first or second line. Stempniak and Hudler to round out the top nine on RW. Cervenka won't be back I think (his choice). If by some miracle they grab Nichushkin and one of Moanahan/Lindholm/Barkov, and Nich made it over next year that would eliminate the need to go out and sign another UFA.
C: Backlund, Draft pick or Horak, Reinhart and Bouma should be the top four centers this year. Not flashy by all means but going forward these guys need the time. No need to bring in outside UFA's here for a couple years.
Fourth Line would look good with Bouma, McGrattan, Aliu or whatever they find to plug the last wing spot.
Defense: Brodie, Wideman, Giordano should all be back next season leaving three spots to fill with Cundari, Breen, Wotherspoon (I have a feeling this guy is going to make the team) Sarich and a possible trade addition. Would like the Flames to take a shot at either Alzner or Hjallmersson.
Goaltending: Barring a Kipper comeback, Ramo and Berra should be manning the net next season with McDonald being able to step in if one of them cannot step up.
So the additions I would like to see: Hjallmersson or Alzner, Raymond, one of Horton/Clarckson/Stalberg.

I pray the Flames dont go after Clarkson as hell get a large pay increase.
The guy has intangibles but he only scored 5 times in the final 34 games of the season. Thats barely top 9 consistency.
