Good for Kipper.
Kind of puts in into perspective a little bit. For some people there are more important things than hockey. We always have to remember these are real human beings and we aren't dealing with an xbox here.

I don't have a problem with this news. If there's one player on our roster who deserves this, it's him. We all knew when he signed that contract that the last year was added on only to get the cap hit down and he would retire. No one should be surprised.
IMO, Kipper retiring as a Flames > low draft pick

You forgot to mention while on your soap box, this was after Finalnd treated him like garbage as a goalie prospect until he became famous in the league.

I think, at worst, the Flames have lost a 2nd round pick with Kipper's decision.
It's not a major loss, and there's something to having one Flames legend retire in red. Hopefully he plays well the rest of the season (just not well enough to win).

True, it sounds like Toronto wouldn't make the deal unless Kipper played next year as well.
It was a dumb contract by the Flames to begin to get a better cap hit.
Front loaded contract with an NTC and then NTC is lifted when he's worth nothing.
Flames put themselves in this situation where a aging goalie will retire instead of making the 1.5 million next year.

Sure they can, where did you hear that? I think babies can fly at 7 days old, and any younger you just need a doctors note saying the baby is fit to fly.
Anyways, congrats Kipper, I'll be glad to see you retire a Flame.

He doesn't have a NTC or a NMC. It expired last season. This is Kipper simply saying "nope, I don't want to go" - so in effect, if he was dealt, Kipper would not report and be in breach of his contract.

Really drives home how tied Feaster's hands have been throughout this whole process. Players in Calgary have gotten far too comfortable - glad to be turning the page on this era.

well hope they have a change in management that has direction because right now instead of pointing fingers at the players, you should blame management for state of the team

Sometimes family is just more important than hockey/business.
Process that.

Good grief, sometimes this board is sickening.
If someone wants to retire let them retire. The guy just had a kid, I'm guessing most of you arn't fathers and can't relate but just try to put your ignorance aside and put yourself into Kip's shoes.
Family should always, no matter what be > than hockey.
Its disgusting. Stop crying over a 3rd or 4th round pick we missed out on because a guy who gave use a fantastic 2004 cup run and who has been one of the most consistent players for the past decade wants to retire a flame and spend some time with his family.

Yeah, because Kiprusoff is the worst goaltender in history of the NHL.
What a stupid post. Either just ignorant or looking to stir up something.

They all suck. Period.

They would have got something instead of nothing. A 7th rounder would have been better than nothing. If he didn't play another game, it also increases our chances of getting a better player at the draft.
I again cheer for the team over the player. He has every right to retire whenever he wants but it doesn't benefit the team or the fans.

The greatest save kipper ever made was when he saved this franchise.
How about we treat him with a bit of respect?

The NTC expired last year for this reason (option of trading him when he's on the last year at big money) though. If he's saying don't trade me because I'm going to retire at the end of the year, that's fine. If he's still here next season after all of this, that's different.
That said, based on his play this year, if he's here next year he's probably not the starter anyway.

The guy gave it all, year in and out. He's broke down this year, and the fire is gone. We should let him retire on his own terms.
Besides, are we going to all gang up on Kipper after everything he has done for a 4th rounder? Even a second? That's being a little petty.
