Totally hurts the Flames. I think that this sets a dangerous precedent for players to "give themselves a NTC". Whats stopping other players from making this same threat? Total BS.

I'm ok with that. He's carried this team at times, let him retire a Flame. Can't blame him for not wanting to go to Toronto.

Because being away from a newborn for a couple of days at a time is different than being away for 2-3 months. Why is this so hard for people to grasp?
Oh and before anyone goes there....newborns can't fly.

Not really. Kipper likely wouldn't have gotten much that would really contribute to the rebuild anyway. Sure the pick or prospect could've been helpful, but likely won't be that much of a potential loss in the long term.

Agreed, isn't Glencross the type of player/contract we want on this team.

I'd rather they wait till the off season and trade for Bishop/Bernier or try and sign Smith.

Was hoping to see him play some meaningful games at the end of his career, and get a 3rd rounder back.

Hopefully they don't start him tonight. His head will not be in it.

Please don't give Kiprusoff the Sundin treatment.
The guy has done more for this team than anyone in the last 10 years. And that includes #12.

I don't think the return was going to be that big anyway, so whatever. We don't need a 3rd or 4th rounder that bad.

Speaking as someone who has done a lot of road work in the past, I think you greatly underestimate the difference between being out of town for a few days at a time, and benig out of town for months at a time.
There is quite a bit of irony in your post, given you are basically accusing Kiprusoff of being selfish because he won't accede to your own selfish wants.

Can't really get mad at a guy for loving the city that he plays in. Maybe he'll make a good mentor for Ramo or Ortio one day?

Because half aren't, he has a son fresh out of the oven, and he's a family first kind of guy.
I don't have a huge problem with this situation.

I don't think Kipper would have brought us back much at this point anyways. His reluctancy to move, the ongoing speculation that he plans to retire after this season, and his unbelievably poor stats this season I think really put a dent in any potential package that the Flames would have received for him.

If he is not motivated to play hockey, then retire now.
It's not in the Flames best interests to suspend him for not living up to his contractual rights; it would be a black mark on the organization, but seriously scratch him for the rest of the games and let the whiny brat stay home.

Can't say I'm happy about that. Would've been nice to parlay him into some draft picks / young assets.

We're saving the cap hit, which was the whole reason for trading him (the return would have negligible). Glad he will retire in Calgary.

No, he doesn't. He does not have a NTC this year. A player cannot make these threats and get away with it. Maybe the NHLPA needs to fine him, cause this is going to hurt other players in the future.

Good thing we didn't trade him in the off-season after the season he had last year. A non-playoff team with an aging goalie who's most likely retiring after the end of the year coming off his best season in a long time - what other team, but the Flames holds on to that guy?
Great asset management.
