It's utterly indefensible at this point.

Bonafide NHLer sent down to the minors because Blake Comeau is on a 1-way and you don't want to risk losing that guy on waivers.

Cody Mccormick had roughly the same amount of fights in 2010-11 as Akim Aliu has in roughly 10 years of hockey.

If they need someone to mix it up and add toughness that is a guy that acutally will mix it up and add toughness. Also a guy that while not great is a much better player overall than Aliu.

If a contract spot is an issue then that is a pathetic way to run the team based on the way contracts have been handled this year.

I am surprised that Aliu is still considered a prospect by a NHL team. He has not really ever done anything at any level of hockey. Sad thing for Aliu is that if they had never called him back up he may have ended with one of the highest PPG totals in league history, only Mario and Wayne are higher that I know of. That distinction is probably gone now.

Why pick up McCormick when you have Aliu already under contract?

Yup, it's disgusting. Feaster is the biggest talker there is, only Burke is in his league.

Yup. Not hard to imagine Haretly sits him down and tells him if he does not hit everything that moves, or does not stand up for a goalie when he gets knocked down, that he will be back in the AHL before he can blink.

Whether Aliu can do the things asked of him on a nightly basis is another question.

not sure how an AHLer acting like a jerk and then getting punched in the face repeatedly is going to help us in any way but wait and see I guess

A lot of negative nellies on here, you add a 1.5 PPG guy to your lineup and people complain?

At this point it's worse.

Now the Flames are actively hampering the future of the team by sending guys like Horak down, benching baert and so on.

To protect Blake Comeau from waivers? To protect Anton Babchuk from waivers?

And Comeau?? Why would he even be in the discussion.
Comeau there because I think you don't need guys like Iginla and Tanguay doing it and he seems like a guy that we could risk taking a penalty or two by playing this style of game. He certainly wouldn't be my first choice but he isn't doing much with what he is doing now so might as well try him out doing something different.

Seems higher than average player but very low for a "tough guy" or guy expected to add toughness.

The only people Akim Aliu is going to intimidate in a hockey rink are the baggage handlers. I guess if Hartley wants a jerk on the team, Aliu's about as good as you'll find in this franchise at being just that.

Or Zach Kassian? Or Dana Tyrell? Give Buf/Min/TB a minor leaguer for these energy guys so they don't pay a one way contract in the minors. All the bitching about how hard it is to make a trade is malarkey, just an excuse. You can't tell me that a team would love to cut costs and this is one way to get NHL talent for cents on the dollar.

I agree with you , but i have a bad feeling that if Feaster and Haretly are still with the flames next year that Comeau will be also.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Clearly the Flames are in a bit of panic mode looking for someone who can light a fire under the current players. If Alui can do that and generate some energy out there i'm fine with that.

Not sure if this is the best thread for this but since sending a (sometimes) center down has been brought up, have Feaster or Hartley addresses the lack of center/terrible FO's of the Flames this year other than the BS 'we think Tanguays can be a great center" BS we heard early on?

Sure, but not enough to waste the effort acquiring him. We're talking about guys who will play 6-8 minutes a night on the nights they even get into the lineup. Let Aliu have his couple games, then go from there.
