Maybe the choice of Aliu is to address our lack of grit. Hopefully Baertschi is back soon!

Maybe he is not "tough" but I think the Flames need someone to act like a d@#k out there. No one plays that role now.

Aliu sucks, this isn't the answer. He was completely forgettable when I watched him play in Abby this year.

Aliu has been in a fight 2 times so far this season.
I don't think Aliu necessarily deserves the call up but he brings an element no one else in Abbottsford except maybe Bancks possesses which I expect is the reasoning for the call-up.

Three fights last year, two fights in 27 games this year. Let's be factual here, moon.

No he's not. I go to quite a few Heat games and he's either a) scratched or b) invisible. Not happy they are sending Horak down.

Meh, at least Aliu playing means the other team won't be able to coast the entire game. Teams act like playing the Flames is a walk in the park, and Jackman, Jones and Begin do nothing to change that.
If he comes in and plays 5 minutes but punches someone in the face if they run over the goalie, then I am content.

I don't see how this can hurt.
Maybe he comes in and performs a role that this team doesn't have.
And if he doesn't, well, then I guess we're closer to that top pick you all want.

I guess I just don't see how Begin, Jackman, Comeau or Jones couldn't do that.
It isn't like it is some learned skill like scoring, goaltending or passing that only certain guys can do at the NHL level.
It seems like Hartley should be able to say to basically anybody on the team we need you to act like a jerk out there and they should be able to do that.
Also not sure how that helps the team out that much as acting like a jerk isn't making up for leaving guys wide open, poor goals against, inability to get pcuk from Kings last night or any of the other multitude of problems this team has had this season.

I honestly think Aliu will do whatever the coaching staff wants as long as it results in him staying up with the big club. No question the reason he got the call up was because they want a tough guy that can mix it up.

That is factual.
He has been in two fights this year against 2 guys who rarely fight and two guys under 200 lbs.
The most fights in a season he has had is 4.
Perhaps I am crazy but 2 fights this year and 3 last year seem to indicate he doesn't fight that much and certainly isn't adding much in that department to the team.

Regafdless of you not seeing why they couldn't do title, they aren't.
And Comeau?? Why would he even be in the discussion.

Agreed. It may only provide entertainment value, which is something that I need to stay interested. I've been turning off games real early lately.

Do you know what the average fight per year is?
I don't, but I'm willing to bet three would be on the higher side.

I don't think Aliu is here to add 'toughness'. He's here to add energy. I think they're hoping he will bring a little attitude to shame some of the other guys into playing with attitude as well.
Either way, no big fan of Horak being sent back down.

Yeah, but like Hartley says, we have a great group of guys out there. Isn't that swell.
It is getting harder to believe in Feaster. We need NHL calibre grit and we get Aliu. This is an absolute joke. Minny gets Rupp who is at least NHL worthy and we get Alim freaking Aliu. Feaster has done a sh*tty job in upgrading the toughness quotient and will probably have to buy Jones out at year's end but hey, at least we have a great group of guys on the team.

Not a fan of these moves, but clearly it means Sven is ready so Horak is the obvious choice to get sent down.
I personally don't think Aliu is that deserving of the promotion. For once I'd like to see Bancks. He's been the one busting his ass every single game for the three seasons he's been with the Heat.
Oh well, it is what it is. I'll be rooting for Aliu to do what he did last season, no matter how meaningless the games were.
