Actually, I'm not too worried about that. In several court cases including honor killing and general female abuse the Canadian courts have come down hard on the families practicing Sharia law and their own type of religious justice. Even making public statements along the lines of 'these types of family and religious laws have no place in our free society'.
As long as we stay vigilant about it and talk about it like we would any domestic abuse or violence, we should be ok. Which is why in my first post I noticed how the biggest thing is to worry about the individuals (usually females) inside these communities and not turn a blind eye to them, rather than roaming bands of whatever. Cause that's where it starts, and that's where it will grow if we do indeed let it.
But with the cases that I have seen I have been pleasantly surprised about the Canadian justice system's hard line stance, because you usually only hear this other anti-immigration, anti-Islam, side.
While values in free society do change, they generally change towards greater freedoms and not to greater restrictions. Free society has ways of absorbing and diluting fanaticism.
