A few months ago shaw was wooing my dad with some good offers, I got annoyed, called shaw and asked about getting a deal. I dropped a couple of movie channels and switched over to exo and saved about $80. Told the rep I only wanted to pay less than that, so he dropped the price another $20. I left satisfied.

Never had a problem dealing with them.. I just go to one of their main buildings and get whatever I want heh. You can't be scared to ask for things.

We switched to telus today, and now our bills are going to be $96 for the first 6 months (with the first month free) and then $154 after. If you're looking to switch providers, I can assure you that Shaw is definitely not the way to go...they do provide high internet speeds, but their prices are expensive and their customer services is terrible, (i've been interrupted, yelled at and even hung up on, all the while I acted nice and patiently).
Having been with Telus for about 4 months now I would say expect to experience about the same level of service and crap customer service.

Shaw and Telus both suck equally.

^^^I'd like to throw Rogers into that mix, for lying, billing for whatever they want, attitude and always getting their way. The only thing they were good at was answering the phone right away.

I think it is fair to say that all of the big telecom companies in this country suck on an approximately equal level. We have no choice.

And Enmax, and the parking authority, and air canada. This is too off topic, i'll continue in the gear grinder thread.

Turns out my old motorola HD box can't order movie central on demand movies in HD because it isn't MPEG 4 compatable.

Going to give Shaw a call and see if they will give me a deal on Gateway hardware for existing customers. It would be cheaper to switch to Telus for Optik tv, since I would be a new customer.

Edit: Called them and they offer a trade in program for HD boxes for a portal. However my HD box is too old and doesn't qualify for trade in. Add me to the pretty mad at Shaw group, might be switching to Telus now.

And they just added 6 HD feeds exclusively for the Olympics. If the coverage is similar to Vancouver, Bell will be unparalleled.

So I called Shaw to give them a months notice and the guy offered me one year off the easy pay for a gateway and portal. So $20 for 12 months off, $240 off gateway might be enough to keep me around.

The service levels seem to be if you get lucky and talk to a good rep or not...I had my upstairs PVR stop working last week and called in. The guy I talked to said, it must be an outage...I replied the other PVR's in my house work just fine, he then said its a limited outage...wtf?? So the outage is limited to the upstairs of my house??

Hung up, called back, got a different guy and he booked me a service call...so at least I'm getting somewhere, only have to wait a week for them to come....awesome.
