Baaaam.

That's a good idea, but probably wouldn't work from me (female). That would be great for a guy though. Thanks

That's awesome, but I am not sure if the yanks would 'get it.' Great quote, thanks!

Except we actually have British Government. The irony is that the Brits will modernise their system, while we'll still be stuck with it as their legacy.

The 10 Commandments

The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery," and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians...It creates a hostile work environment.

Mad cow disease....

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

I waited all of 1.5 months for full ACL reconstruction surgery, and all it cost me was the gas to get to and from the hospital, and then some popsicles, because popsicles are freaking awesome when you are sick or need an excuse to have popsicles.

Oh, and it cost me nothing for the surgery.

By show of hands, how many Americans base their decisions off of what Fox News tells them to do?

She said jokes, not digs.

I would speak metric, throw as much metric at them as possible.

That's not quite how the joke goes. Here's the right version:

Canada could have had:
French Cuisine
British Culture
American work-ethic

Instead we got:
French work-ethic
American Culture
British Cuisine

I have a friend who said this the other day, if it helps any...

"The American dream and the Canadian dream are the same, except... instead of wanting to live in a house with a white picket fence, you want to live in a house with a multiethnic picket fence."

no mine is the original version you have the updated one

Author/anthropologist J. R. Colombo: "Canada could have enjoyed English government, French culture and American know-how. Instead, it would up with English know-how, French government, and American culture."

Yeah, but as SebC pointed out above, that makes no sense because Canada has British government, not French. And English know-how would actually be a pretty good thing to have.

When Trudeau invoked the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, many thought that he had changed the basis of our government from the British to the French model.

First past the post, common law, supremacy of the legislature over the executive... we're on the British system.

Quebec uses civic law for private law, but that's it.

The US government has more French influence than ours does IMO, most notably in the role of the head of state.

Yeah, I'm on shaky ground when it comes to the government. Too long out of school but I was stating the attitude of many when Trudeau brought in his legislation.

From wikipedia:

Quote:
The Parliament of Canada is composed of three parts: the monarch, the Senate, and the House of Commons.[1] Each has a distinct role, but work in conjunction within the legislative process. This format was inherited from the United Kingdom, and thus is a near identical copy of the parliament at Westminster, the greatest differences stemming from situations unique to Canada, such as the impermanent nature of the monarch's residency in the country and the lack of a peerage to form the upper chamber.
Regardless of what anyone said about Trudeau's reforms in the 80s, Canada's government is now and always has been based almost 100% on the British system.

It has to do with the era of when the quote was done.

Our economy was faltering our debt was growing out of control and our goverment was ineffective. Just like a French goverment it is not to be taken literally.

Context context context

Are you that proud that you will take us down another road of a minor detail rather than just admit you are wrong when you tried to correct me?
