We shot our shots with them already. I don't think Fitz would pick up the phone until at least the next deadline.
Because Fitz is a moron and Conroy can fleece him whenever he wants.

I feel like Laine would be such a cool player to acquire under these sort of circumstances. Can't imagine it'd be a straight dump, but if his value has bottomed out (thanks in part to his contract)...that'd be so rad.

I really don't think Laine would come with a sweetener. At best it would be a pennies on the dollar kind of deal.

One of their young centers should be available.

With Fantilli, Monahan and Lindstrom in the fold there's isn't much room for Sillinger or Johnson in the fold.

I don't think Johnson has played center at all in the last five years.

CBJ has almost as much cap space as Calgary. I know Laine asked for a trade but I don't think they'll treat it as a cap dump.

He has. To be fair it hasn't been much, similar to Zary. But he's listed everywhere I read as a Center.

The Flames have done well with Sharangovich and Kuzmenko, Laine seems like a similar type of situation. He may elevate his game in a zero pressure situation where the expectations are lower.

In Columbus he was under fire from day one. That and the organization is a complete gong show. Just think he thought Babcock would be his coach, and someone new was brought in right before the season began. Then he got injured and missed time for his mental health reasons. In Winnipeg he had the pressure of being a high draft pick and playoff expectations. Still he put up 44 goals one year, and (essentially) 30+ in his other three seasons with the Jets.

I think a proper organization like the Flames would be welcoming to him. After managing a similar situation with Kylington. It just makes too much sense. He might be similar to some of the players we already have, but positional balance isn't entirely relevant during a 'rebuilding' year. If Laine or Kuzmenko can pot 30 goals that'll net a substantial return. It's something Conroy should be on, and I'm certain Waddell wants to find a new partner for Laine.

The thing I worry about with Laine is does he still have a passion for playing hockey? If he still has that I’d welcome him! Not sure he has that right now

He never did. He is a super talented player that is more passionate about video games.

The Blue Jackets would be at risk of not making the cap floor if that trade went through. I would guess they would be more interested in trading for Rasmus or even Kadri than dumping salary.

The Isles are super stuck with 20/23 roster spots filled and 1 million in cap to fill em.

I assume they would like to dump Palmieri or Pageau. Except both have 16 team no trade clauses and likely would not waive for Calgary.

Yeah, I’m really not sure why people think Columbus will attach a big asset to move on from Laine. They don’t need the space and are probably treating it more as giving him a fresh start.
