Here are the athletic's valuation of our players last year, based on production and analytics.
Upcoming UFA/RFA:
Lindholm : $8.6M
Backlund: $8.5M
Tanev: $8.4M
Hanifin: $7.8M
Zadorov: $5.5M
Kylington: $5.5M(guessing its based on 2years ago).
Dube: $3.1M

Other notables:
Huberdeau: $7M
Kadri: $6.7M
Mangiapane: $6.2M
Coleman: $6M

Weegar: $12.1M
Andersson: $11M

Markstrom: league min

Most of those values are a lot higher than what they should be especially when we consider age, but I would argue that Backlund's worth to the Flames would be a lot more than $2M in each of the next 2 years.

I'm not sure if there is an updated version, but I'm just using it for reference.
Yeah he is worth more than that, but the Flames should not sign him for more than that. The goal isn't to limp along with the same team, the goal should be to get better.

Still working on it.

At least one team has stepped up in a big way in a attempt to acquire Noah - MY GUT** it's Florida Panthers and I have maintained this message all summer long.

One name I've herd connected to Florida/Flames is Matthew "Mackie" Samoskevich. 2021 First Rounder.

Teams are talking and as we get closer to puck drop the pressure will go up. If you fall out the gate in some divisions it could be season over in a hurry.

Nikita Zadorov and Flames have a bit of a gap in contract negotiations but I think the flames are motivated to get this one done. Flames want lower AAV and Z wants "Producers Money".

I hope Elias has a to go back packed and ready to go. Flames offered a contract that starts with a 9 and he didn't sign it. If that's the case, SHIP HIM OUT.

In other news, Jacob Markstrom looks to be incredible shape. He might be the lightest and healthiest he's ever been in his career.

…Elias not signing a contract that starts with a $9 is Elias saying he isn’t really interested in staying. Fine by me.

If true I'm happy he didn't sign it, disappointed that it was offered.

If that's really the case, then I hope the Flames make the hard decision and let him test UFA/trade him. I don't see any contender signing him to $9M+. I could live with a 9+ price tag if it was on a 3-4 year term.

Well i guess we cant assume it started with a 9 and was for 7-8 years either.

What if the Flames offered $9.5/yr for 5 years. Would you be upset with that? I'd be pretty happy to have the remaining prime years locked up at that price. I start to get uncomfortable when we are talking $8.5-9million averaged over 8 years however, when Lindholm will be on the decline for at least 3 of them.

THat said, if the Flames offered over 9 on a shorter term, I would also expect Lindholm not to agree to that, at least not yet, and push for more years.

Point is, there is a lot we don't know, i suppose, but i don't think we can assume anything beyond the little bits that get reported here

My information is that it was NOT a 8 year deal.

I'm not interested in Lindy on the Flames for 9mil (if it's a longterm contract). I think that number would make Conroy look pretty bad.

It could be okay for a shorter contract though

A lot of the hand wringing for Lindholm was contract length and his age when it ended. Paying him more over a shorter term is ideal.

Win/Win IMO

But apparently not his lol

Also if dealing with Florida, I'd still want Lundell.

If Calgary can get Lindholm to agree to a 6 year deal as opposed to a 8 year deal then it's a massive win.. even if your paying him 9.5 vs 8.75.

Former Chicago Steel team mate of Coronato, so the Flames probably have a good book on him. It makes sense that he might be on the radar. I mean of course being a former 1st rounder, I am sure that every team scouted him, but the Flames may have been a little more focused on the Steel at that time.

A lot of crying by Allan Walsh that NHL players don't get paid like stars.

You can't really use the NBA as a comparison due to roster size but if you want stars to make more you can easily reduce contract lengths and increase the salary for guys.

With a higher cap I bet a lot more team would happily reduce term for a higher cap hit and salary.

6 years for Lindholm would be perfect but the way the CBA is now players in that age range want the extra 2 years because they know in the last 2-3 years they will most likely not be worth that cap hit.

The Lucic deal is one perfect example as we sat on that contract waiting it out to expire.

Now that is a solid idea. Shorter deal in 9's can be equivalent to a longer deal in the 8's and work nicely depending on what either side prefers. I would rather have shorter deals and try to have the Hurricanes structure.

It doesn't say that at all. Maybe it says he hasn't been interested in signing YET.

The number may not even be that important to him, maybe he just wants to see what the room looks like first.

Or, maybe the number was fine, but the term wasn't what he is looking for, and wants to keep talking.

We simply don't know. And when fans interpret a single comment like that, and think they know what it implies, it always cracks me up.
